It's the time of the year when you'll want to enjoy your holiday celebrations with everyone you love ... including your four-legged companions. But did you know the holiday can also bring a variety of hazards and dangers for our furry friends?
Make sure your guests know ahead of time not to spoil your pet with holiday treats or table scraps. Try introducing a bowl of safe snacks, like carrots, for your more persistent guest. Too much rich food can upset of furry friends stomach.
Give your pet a "Safe Space". With all the hustle and bustle of guest and small children. Your pets may need a place for a "time out". Make sure they have water and toys to keep them happy and occupied.
Be careful of incoming food and flowers/plants that can potentially harm your pets. Did you know that grapes/raisins can cause kidney failure and lilies are poisonous to cats? And don't forget chocolate and any sugar free candies or gum that contains Xylitol.
If any family members or guest have medications make sure the medication is stored safely off the ground and out of paws reach. Each year, hundreds of pets grab medications out of purses, suitcases or tables.
Listed are a few other food/liquid items that your pets should avoid:
Alcohol, Avocado, Coffee, Caffeine, Citrus, Macadamia Nuts, Milk and Dairy, Nuts, Onions, Garlic, Chives, Raw/Undercooked Meat, Eggs, and Bones, Salt and Salty Snacks, and Yeast Dough.
