Remember that your senior pets and pets with chronic disease, like OA, may struggle with the weather this weekend. The pressure changes can make them sore and painful., much like us as we age. It is important to remember to give their pain medication consistently. Other things that may help are movement-making sure they are getting up and moving some to get that joint fluid moving, and hot and cold therapy. Use heat in the am to warm up those muscles and cold (not necessarily frozen) at night to decrease inflammation. Hot and cold gel packs work great for this. You can heat them according to their directions and then toss them in the fridge to chill for the evening. Most pets like the cold packs directly from the fridge even if they don't like them frozen. You may also toss a towel in the dryer and get it warm to wrap around them, small dogs especially. Ideally try to get 10 minutes, but as tolerated is a great guideline. Massage also helps them.

If you have questions or concerns about your furbaby, reach out to your veterinarian for guidance.

This is your reminder that it is storm season in our area. If your pet has storm anxiety, remember to watch the weather and give them their anxiety medication as directed by your vet. Be sure to call and get it refilled before you are out of medication. And as always, if it is storming and you need to change a rehab appointment to keep from taking your furbaby out, please let us know. We are happy to accommodate you and your furbaby's needs.
