Way to go Bud!
Meet Owen Fennig, your August AJCA Member of the Month!
Hailing from Coldwater, Ohio, 18-year-old Owen has spent the last 10 years immersed in the world of Chianina and Chi-influenced cattle. His passion runs deep, fueled by memories like seeing his grandparents and family in the stands—no matter the location—cheering him on at every Junior National. One of his all-time favorite show heifers was a Broker x Hairietta female, a standout not only for her legendary genetics but also for her winning track record. Owen’s days are rooted in hard work, from morning to night—caring for show heifers, washing, working hair, and tending to sale calves alongside his family at Fennig Show Cattle. This fall, he’s headed to Wright State to study Agri-Business, with plans to continue raising elite show cattle and help run his family’s crop insurance business, Fennig-Homan Agribusiness. Owen says what sets the Chianina breed apart is the generosity and support of the people behind it—always ready to lend a helping hand. He credits AJCA with teaching him the value of relationships, learning, and community. Known for his quick wit, Owen jokes he’d be a show heifer if he were an animal—“they live on easy mode!” A fun fact? One of his earliest heifers, Zinnia, not only built his herd but may have helped launch the now very well-known, Tim Schaeffer’s, career—just ask him! Owen lives by the quote, “Doubt kills dreams more than failure ever will,” and it's clear he’s chasing his with drive, humility, and heart.
