I’m gonna make this boy the dog of the week! I would like to say that he’s available… However, his mediate future is still up for question. Two weeks ago, he was rescued from an overcrowded shelter that was actually 24 hours or lass from being euthanized. There’s a spark in his eyes that I couldn’t bear to see go dim.
I believe at one time he was running the fields and herding sheep. He needs a trainer. He may be agility trained, or he just might have a high sense of intuition being a very smart breed… He wants to work and he wants to be connected to someone. He’s already trained. All the basics… Sit, stay, down, come, co follow, go back, shake, and possibly more.
Probably out on his own for a year, maybe eight months… I think he was a victim of the storms in North Carolina and was separated, and the owners are unable to find him and maybe presume that he did not survive. He was just too well loved to come to this point and not survive the situation that he was in. So, I did what any idiot would with an oversized heart and arms larger them my vision… and I took him in. (My mama told me I always bring home he strays).
Temporarily of course! All intentions on finding him the best quality home and gearing towards a farm. If you know me, you know, I have four of my own dogs and Diane my business partner has five of her own dogs… All rescues. As I’m so often reminded, the Inn is full.
What’s the first rule about animals? Never give them a name? So over the last two weeks he has made himself at home and proven to be extremely intelligent . As I said, he knows all of his commands and I’m sure several that I haven’t tried yet. Affectionate and intelligent. He has a vet examination Monday. This worries me a little bit since we are already treating four dogs that were rescued from the south that are heartworm positive… It is financial drain on our small Rescue. His vet visit will determine the exact condition of his health.… and we can proceed from there. I have two possible adopters in mind. We’ll see what Monday brings… Oh yeah! His name is storm. (dammit, I named him!).
Last night he did not apply any of that intelligence and in a warehouse on two levels he was looking for me and panicked and ran off the second level! He hit the concrete floor pretty hard, and I was of course immediately and extremely concerned. If he had a cape he would’ve flown down. It was 10 feet. I missed him by inches. I had turned around just to see him chest high falling through the air. I could not grab it. However, as his lock would have it he must be part feline! He walked away with a bruised leg, but no worse for the wear. He is fine. So now he’s affectionately known as storm, the jerk! Give your best to the jerk.
