Let’s talk about preventing disease through nutrition. I’m seeing much more of overweight pets, pets with joint and eye problems much too early, heart problems, liver and kidney problems. Sure, some of it can be summed up to genetics, but do you know just how much of that is caused by the diet they eat every single day?
I know for us humans it couldn’t possibly be healthy to eat from McDonald’s every meal of the day, every single day. So why are we feeding that to our pets? The majority of dog foods are made with hard to digest materials like wheat, soy, corn, legumes, and byproducts. High in calories, fillers, preservatives, dyes and artificial flavorings and colors. All the things we try to avoid in our own diets we are just blindly feeding to our pets and not realizing the true danger they’re in for long term because of it.
For the longest time I was feeding my dogs Purina Pro Plan and balanced raw. A highly recommended dog food, high in protein and fat, it seemed perfect for my active pack to help me cut down on the cost of feeding exclusively raw to such a large pack. About a year into feeding I noticed some bloody gums and bloody diarrhea from my babies. We rush to the vet for all tests to show as normal. Our vet warns us of recent purina recalls and to look into the possibility of the food we feed having been recalled. We looked into it, and our specific food hadn’t been recalled yet but many others made by Purina had been recalled and pro plan was also making other dogs sick but hadn’t had a lawsuit opened about it yet. So we started looking for a new dog food to feed with my babies raw food. We were recommended to try Victor. I read into it, picked one I thought would suit my dogs (Victor Hi-Pro) Absolutely not. My babies started getting sick not even a few months after adding Victor to their diet. They had diarrhea and nobody wanted to finish their dinners. At first I wasn’t sure what was causing it. Fecals at the vet were coming back negative for everything parasitic, blood tests were normal aside from elevated phosphorus because of the kibble. It was like our Purina incident all over again. Then Victor got a recall for making dogs sick. I was mortified. We did some research and switched to diamond. All was going well until mamas and puppies started to get sick on diamond puppy food. More trips to the vet, more negative tests. Only this time I was quick to jump to the possibility of food being the issue. Again I started scouring the internet for recalls and find that while it hadn’t been recalled yet, it was making other pets sick too.
So there I was again for the third time in one year looking for a good dog food to ease the financial burden of feeding exclusively raw. That’s when I come across pawTree. Holistically made with human grade ingredients, no artificial dyes, colors, preservatives, no fillers, no indigestible materials, no recalls and NO COMPLAINTS!!!!
To the amazing woman and dog breeder who recommended it, I will forever be grateful for you!
Since switching I’ve noticed my dogs are now flourishing the same way they did solely eating balanced raw, and that is astounding. Anyone who’s switched from low quality to high quality dog food can vouch that the difference is evident.
Less poops, healthy weight, good muscle mass, lots of energy, shinier coat, healthy teeth, and all the things we can’t see. They’re given the nutrients for healthy skin, fur, eyes, bones, joints, muscle, gut, liver, kidneys, brain function, cardiac and vascular function, all from the food they eat. With investing in your pet’s health, you’ll ultimately be spending less on vet bills later in their life because those problems won’t exist without feeding the main reason to cause those problems. Also meaning you get to keep your pet healthier, happier, alive and thriving longer by something as simple as feeding them a healthy, nutritionally complete diet. We’ve been feeding pawTree for almost 6 months now and raw for 4 years. My dogs are in better condition now than they were the entire time on Purina, Victor and Diamond combined.
I challenge my fellow dog, cat, ferret, horse, all the lovely animal lovers to read the ingredients list on the back of your pet food bags. (The ingredients are listed by percentage highest to lowest so the first 5 ingredients listed are the main ingredients that make the food) if those first 5 ingredients contain any of the fillers, dyes or indigestibles mentioned earlier, you should definitely be looking for a new food.
