Another proud moment today at Whitehead Ranch. This cross has been highly anticipated! One of our home-raised broodmares, "Lena", had her first foal. Lena was our first filly by Blu Silver Valentine and out of a well proven broodmare, Dr Smart Lil Sierra. Happy to announce Lena had a beautiful filly by Southern Panther.

Pictures really don't do Poquita Menta's foal justice! This big-boned c**t takes after his sire, JM Bigstar Hancock. Big Star is our 16h blue roan stud who despite his big stature, is as gentle and quiet as they come.
Poquita Menta's foals have all had great dispositions as well so we have no doubt this c**t will follow suit.

It's a beautiful day to welcome not only our first foal of 2025, but also our very first foal by Southern Panther! Talk about a stacked and packed pedigree. This filly has Jesse Rey Taris, Bob Acer Doc and Smart Little Lena on the bottom side and Hashtags, Pl***oy Boonsmal and CD Olena on the top side. She will stay with us as a replacement to produce top quality offspring for years to come.

This is a hard post to share. We unexpectedly lost Blu Silver Valentine this week. This horse, he was one of a kind. He not only played a substantial role in our program, but he was part of the family too. Always a gentleman and always ready to conquer what was asked of him. It's really hard to put in to words how great he was. Our breeding program is what it is today because of him.

He was the kind of stud horse that brought quality minds, confirmation, and an added bonus of color to his offspring. He was the kind of stud horse that you could pull directly out of the pasture with mares and as soon as you put the saddle on him, his mind would automatically switch from stud horse to working ranch horse without any fuss. He was the kind of stud horse that completed his job with a whole heart, whether it was at the ranch or picking up at rodeos. He was also the kind of stud horse that everyone in the family was able to ride and enjoy; he took care of us all no matter who was on his back. He really was what stud horses should be.

With zero symptoms or signs of anything prior, we were really hoping for some answers through the necropsy. Unfortunately, it did not reveal a definite cause of death. It feels unfair, but sadly this is the hard part of the life we live. We'll be experiencing his loss on many different levels for a long time, both personal and operational. But we also know that a lot of you loved him as well, whether it was through his babies or seeing him at rodeos. Thank yall for loving and supporting him..and us.

Just a little update since we've been rather quiet on here lately. Rest assured, we're still here! Fall started off busy with weaning foals and planting pastures. After getting all the foals weaned, we started focusing on some of our c**ts. "Ghost" and "Poco" have been getting work experience in tagging calves, as well as tracking steers in the arena. We've also had an outside horse with us since October that's been a "special case"...we hope to share more on him soon. Hope everyone is doing well this season!
