Larry just likes blueberry pie! It’s the only pie he orders. About every month. He doesn’t know all the words, thoughts, decorations and emotions I put on this little pie (nor does he care). I call it blue bird after the blue bird of happiness! I cut a bird into it as a vent, jazz the filling up with a lot of lemon, and top it with a candied lemon zest combined with my course sparkly sanding sugar. I found the cutest little bluebird stickers for the pie box and have a robin egg blue painted cast iron bird I place by my bluebird pie boxes at market (Probably a little overboard). It’s all because the pie starts with a berry that I feel really isn’t that tasty in a pie and in my opinion isn’t the pie I’d waste my calories on. I kindof put blueberry down every Saturday almost talking people out of the cute pie. I joke about it as I hear nyself. I cover my blueberry pie’s ears where ears would be on its pie box as if not to offend it! And then joke about how I probably talked the costomers out of choosing the blue berry pie for purchase adding on, I’m not a very good blueberry pie sales person!
But…. Last week I got two email about this shunned pie!!! Seriously, one said it was the the best blueberry pie they had ever had and the other said it was FANTASTIC. Like took a minute to follow-up just to let me know. So I now remind myself that my feelings about blueberry pie are really my own. And so exaggerated. But I’m going to continue with all the fluff surrounding this pie, because also like I always joke about on Saturdays at market, I spend a lot of time in a bakery by myself, dreaming up fun little additions to my little pie business and entertaining myself during long bake days🩵🐦🩵
