Hurricane season has officially begun, and while we prepare our homes and families, it’s important not to forget our pets.

As pet parents, having a plan in place before a storm approaches can make all the difference. Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, keep medications refilled, have several days’ worth of food and water on hand, and keep copies of medical records in a safe, accessible location. Don’t forget to ensure your pet’s microchip information is current and that they have a properly fitted collar with identification tags.

Create a pet emergency kit that includes food, water, medications, bowls, a leash, carrier, comfort items, and any supplies your pet may need during an evacuation.

The best time to prepare is before a storm is in the forecast.

Tommy is one of the newest members of the UrbanPawz family after being adopted by Dr. Marcelle and Brian Appelblatt. He came from a family of stray kittens that was found in need of love, care, and a safe place to call home.
