💗 Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is helping a family find their way back to each other. 💗
At PawSquad, we firmly believe that whenever possible, senior dogs deserve to spend their final days with the people they love most—the people who have loved them throughout their lives. To be surrounded by familiar voices, familiar smells, and the comfort of someone they trust.
Too often, we pull senior dogs from shelters after they’ve been abandoned in their final days. We bring them into our hospice program and do everything we can to ensure they know love, comfort, and dignity before it’s time to say goodbye.
But every once in a while, we get something truly special.
Meet Minnie Mouse. 💕
Minnie came to the shelter as an owner surrender. At 16 years old, she has an ulcerated tumor and limited time left. She is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. We knew her remaining time would be short, and our goal was simple: make sure her final chapter was filled with comfort and love.
When one of our hospice fosters said yes, Minnie headed home with them.
Then something amazing happened.
Minnie’s mom, who had surrendered her out of love, never stopped thinking about her. The tumor had begun bleeding, and she simply didn’t have the financial means to get Minnie the veterinary care she desperately needed. Minnie had been with her since the day she was born—16 years together.
Heartbroken, she began searching local rescue pages, hoping someone had taken Minnie in and that she was safe.
That’s when contact was made.
And Minnie went home.
The reunion was absolutely beautiful. Minnie and her mom were overjoyed to see each other again. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
Life isn’t always black and white. Sometimes good people are forced to make heartbreaking decisions because circumstances leave them with no other choice. We understand that.
Before Minnie returned home, we got her into our veterinarian and set up a comfort-care plan to help keep her comfortable for whatever time she has left. Her mom is taking things one day at a time, cherishing every moment they have together.
And when Minnie tells her she’s ready, her mom will bring her to our veterinarian and be right there beside her to help set her free with love and dignity.
When that day comes, we would love to be able to return Minnie’s ashes to her mom.
If you would like to help with Minnie’s veterinary care, comfort care, or future cremation expenses, Minnie, her mom, and all of us at PawSquad would be incredibly grateful.
For now, we’re simply praying for as many comfortable, happy days ahead as possible. 💗🐾
