did someone lose their dragon????? 🐉

Bearded Dragons aren't native to New Mexico, so this scaly pal probably has a home somewhere. If you recognize this grinning lizard, please contact the Clovis Animal Shelter during regular business hours. Proof of ownership will be required for reunification.

Meet this week's featured adoptable pets!

1. Handsome boy, Sisyphus, is a great example of perseverance. You can tell just by looking at him that he hasn't received the T-L-C he deserves in a long time. Despite this, Sis' is still an amazingly friendly, cheerful dog. He loves to lean on you and get scratched, is happy to walk with you, and enjoys being with and around people. Sis' is likely an American Bulldog x Staffy mix, and will likely be 50+ when at a healthy weight. Due to his size, we expect he'll need regular exercise on the leash or in a secure yard, especially as he continues to put on muscle with regular meals. But! We think he'd make a great match for just about any home.

2. Gator is an adult male Staffordshire Terrier. His name comes from his inexperience on a leash and his tendency to "gator roll". But don't let the inexperience fool you, Gator is very people friendly and wants nothing more than to be by his person's side. So far we've seen him be very playful and excited, enjoy getting all the attention, and savor every treat (which he takes very gently). We should note that Gator did *not* love meeting other unaltered males llike Sis', but did love the puppies (until they barked at and scared him). Adopters with other dogs in the home are encouraged to do a meet and greet here at the shelter (neutral ground) to see if Gator would be a good fit for them.

3. Last for the dogs this week is Oliver. Abandoned when his previous owners moved away, Oliver was left to run loose. Thanks to some kind neighbors, he's made his way here and is looking for a second shot at forever in a home! This boy is likely a heeler x staffy mix, suuuper sweet, and has an intense desire to be snuggled. He responds to some commands like "come" and "sit", and could use a refresher on walking on a leash, but is otherwise also a great option for most homes.

4., 5, and 6. It's a puppy and kitten explosion here at CAS right now. If dogs aren't your speed, please consider meeting one of this feisty, fun, and extremely furry kittens that have landed at the shelter.

Looking for your new best friend? This week’s featured adoptable animals from the Clovis Animal Shelter are ready to trade kennel life for cozy couches, belly rubs, and forever homes. Whether you’re looking for a playful companion, a loyal walking buddy, or a laid-back cuddle partner, one of these amazing pets could be the perfect addition to your family.

1. Looking for more "fun" in your routine? Adult mixed breed Patches will add approximately 60 pounds of freckles, fluff, tail wags, and exactly one orange eye brow to your life. Patches loves to romp, play, and enjoys an active lifestyle. Patches is a little timid on the leash, but really gets going when it's time to play. He would make an excellent match for a more active household. If you're looking for an adventure buddy now is the perfect time to start acclimating this happy guy to your routine and expectations. Patches is up to date on vaccinations and has a reduced adoption fee of $205 (before any additional discounts).

2. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Zimba. Zimba is an adult female Staffordshire Terrier masquerading as a tiger. Zimba walks well on a leash, kennels nicely, and is gentle at play time. She enjoys sitting and receiving affection just as much as having a plush toy thrown for her. She would be a good match for many household types, and may be dog friendly. Zimba is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and has a reduced adoption fee of just $15!

3. Looking for a happy medium? Young adult, Smiley, is your boy! Smiley is an extremely friendly shepherd mix who lets his tail wag him. He is shy with the leash and slightly so with new people, but comes around quickly. He enjoys playing, but not as much as getting belly rubs and attention. With a little work on basic life skills (like walking on a leash and not just rolling over for pets), we're sure he'll make an excellent companion. Smiley appears to be dog friendly. Smiley's adoption fee is $215, and covers 100% of his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and registration.

Prefer cats?

4. Friendly boy, Batman, is looking for his new Batcave, or at least a cat tower. Batman is very friendly and social, and will chat for attention. When not fighting crime, he enjoys head scratches and hanging out in warm sunny spots. Batman's adoption fee is $115, and covers 100% of his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and registration.

5. Looking for a more mature cat companion? Justin is approximately 13 years old but has many more years of love to give, and has spent his entire life in loving homes... a trend we'd really like to see continue! Justin is calm, confident, enjoys a snack, and spending time with people and other cats. Justin's adoption fee is significantly reduced because he is already neutered. Please contact the shelter for his adoption fee.

To meet our weekly featured animals, or another of our other adoptable dogs and cats, please visit the Clovis Animal Shelter during regular business hours.

Spend the long weekend getting to know some of our littlest adoptable residents here at CAS. Meet Sue, Donald, Harley, Mable and Justin!

1. Sue is a petite adult female Catahoula Leopard Dog that came to the shelter as a stray. This sweet girl is extremely affectionate, listens well, knows basic obedience, and would make a great family pet.

2. Donald is an adult male Chihuahua mix. He is also affectionate, listens well, and walks (well, prances) nicely on the leash. He is quiet, and has a great temperament for apartment living or for someone who needs a more docile friend.

3. Looking for more energy? Harley is a younger female Toy Fox Terrier full of zest for life. She enjoys playing, exploring the yard, and being around people. She'd make a great pet for an older child/children, or someone looking for an excuse to get outside and play. Harley is very friendly and vigilant, like her breed entails, so may not be the best fit for an apartment as a lot of coming and going from neighbors will inspire her to bark (to alert you). Harley is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and has an incredibly reduced adoption fee of just $5!

4. Mable is an female adult calico ready to start her forever in your home and arms! Mable is quiet, calm, and all around a Very Good Girl. She enjoys spending time in a cozy cat condo, relaxing, and supervising the Cat Room.

5. New kitty in the condo club is Justin. This handsome senior boy was recently surrendered due to no fault of his own, and is ready to get out of here. His kennel card lists him as good with other cats, litter box trained, and roughly 13 years old.

To meet these or any of our other adoptable animals, please visit the Clovis Animal Shelter during regular business hours. We are open Saturday, but will be closed to the public on Monday (for the holiday).

We get it — some pets have a knack for wandering off. 🐾

With the rise in rabies cases in our area, we’re reminding everyone to keep pets leashed, supervised, and up to date on vaccinations (rabies is required for animals within City limits). A little extra attention, and keeping your pets contained, can help keep both your pets and the community healthy and safe.
