Warning...graphic material...
This is REAL, this is RAW, this is RESCUE
These photos are not ours. We are sharing them to help people understand why we continue to fight for abused, starved, neglected and betrayed horses in this world.
Unfortunately, there are still those who live in dreamland. Believing that blind, sick or pregnant horses cannot be slaughtered. That laws are obeyed concerning length of time horses remain on trailers during shipping. They also believe that food and water are continually offered. This is as far from the truth as the east is from the west.
The first picture represents horses that have already been processed at the slaughterhouses. Thousands of halters have been thrown into piles throughout the years. Horses have no need of halters once they are readied for the slaughter process. Plain and simple, what use is a halter to a dead horse walking.
The second and third pictures only begin to tell the story of the horrors of shipping. Horses are killed during the trailering process or hurt so severely they can no longer stand. They are sick, injured, and some just knocked down during the overcrowded ride. Many too weak to stand. Horses die, but some remain alive. Unable to get back up on their feet, they are trampled. A downed horse, if not already dead, is brutally removed by whatever means necessary. That includes being pulled out with equipment, loaded with forks or buckets, and still going through the horror of slaughter. Stories have been told of mares giving birth inside those traveling pits of hell. Of course, a newborn foal cannot survive such. Death is commonplace.
The final photos are during the killing process. Tell me you don't see fear on the face of those horses. The Mexican slaughter plants are by far the most notorious for severe abuse and neglect. A horse is already considered dead by the time they reach the end of the line. There is no more need to feed or water them. Many have traveled days without access to basic needs.
Babies are slaughtered along with larger horses. If the method of killing them, which is sometimes a bolt to the head, cannot get the job done, they are finished off with baseball bats or whatever it takes. Horses have been hoisted up by chains, and the skinning and gutting process begins while they are still alive.
This is just the beginning of the untold nightmares that we have rescued many of our horses from.
We are Cheyenne's Haven. A place of solace and a sanctuary for horses saved from such fate. We are in dire need of financial support. We absolutely cannot continue to do this on our own. We need their stories to be heard, we need our horses to be seen.
We are just a group of ordinary people who by GOD'S grace, save extraordinary horses.
