We're honored to be featured in the latest edition of the Clinton Topper, published today! Check out the article below to learn more about CCOP's work and our upcoming fundraiser.
"A community wide fundraiser is set for Sunday, August 10th from 11am to 3pm to support one of Clinton’s most impactful local food programs, the Clinton Community Outreach Program (CCOP). Held at The Lot in downtown Clinton at the end of Allen Street, the event will feature live music by Nathan Crawford & Friends, a 50/50 drawing, silent auction, family-friendly games including the ever-popular chicken drop game, a free-will offering meal of brats and hot dogs, and more.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit CCOP, which provides monthly grocery assistance to local families who need a helping hand. The food distribution takes place on the second Saturday of each month from 8:30 to 10:00am at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, located at 312 Church Street, Clinton, WI. The food distribution is run as a drive-thru service, where community members can drive up and have groceries loaded directly into their vehicles, no questions asked.
'Right now, we’re serving between 35 to 45 families each month,' said longtime volunteer Brian Enright, who has been with the program for more than 18 years. 'During the holidays, we see that number rise to 60 or more in November and December.'
The program partners with Clinton Foods and Country Pride Meats, and receives generous support from area churches, businesses, schools and individuals. It costs around $2,500 to $3,000 per month to keep the shelves stocked, and every dollar donated goes directly to food purchases. 'All labor is volunteer,' Enright emphasized. 'Whether it’s a $20 dollar check or a larger holiday donation, it all makes a huge difference.'
Local students have also played a key role in supporting the program. 'Our last food drive, a March Madness-themed cereal challenge organized by Ashley and Mary at the Clinton Schools, collected enough cereal to last us for five whole months,' Enright shared.
Each month, a team of about 4-6 volunteers gathers on the Friday night before distribution to unload delivery trucks and pack grocery bags. On Saturday morning, just a few volunteers are needed to run the efficient drive-thru service. 'It’s pretty simple, really,' said Enright. 'It just takes a community that’s willing to support its neighbors and a few individuals to lift and pack.'
As Enright notes, the support of the Clinton community has never gone unnoticed. 'When we put the word out that our funds are running low, the donations come flooding in. It’s pretty amazing.'
Whether you come out for the music, the drawings, or the famous chicken drop game, your participation directly supports the Clinton Community Outreach Program that serves dozens of Clinton families each month. Every dollar raised helps stock shelves, fill grocery bags, and make sure no family has to go without."
