CARA's 17th Annual Dog Days of Summer Event is less than 2 weeks away on Saturday, June 6th 10am-3pm at LeFleur's Bluff State Park (Mayes Lake Entrance off Lakeland Drive at Lakeland Terrace).
This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and 100% of the funds raised go toward the day-to-day expenses of the animals in our care. One of the big expenses is dog food-- so asking for dog food (canned or dry) as the event entry fee helps us stock up our food storage.
Over the years our supporters have come through for us and have donated enough food at this event to get us through for several months!
We know dog food is expensive, and we hate to ask, but we prefer Purina or Diamond brands so that we can try to stay consistent with our food to help keep our dogs' digestive systems healthy! We will also take monetary donations to go toward the purchase of food at the event or online at https://carams.org/donate/food/

This girl has been at the shelter for over 1200 days!! We are offering a COMPLETELY FREE 4 pack of our private lessons to whomever gives her a new furever home! That's a 300.00 value. Let's see what we can do y'all!

Today’s shelter pup will be ignored by the vast majority of people who see her, as she has two huge strikes going against her. I don’t need to tell you what those are. But we love our Raven and she’s going to have her day anyway. 🖤

Raven came to us in December of 2022. She was part of a group of dogs we dubbed ‘The Chained Six’. These dogs had never known anything but being chained as protection for a trap house. They never knew love, meals were few and far between, comfort didn’t exist as they were left chained out at in all types of inclement weather, love was a word they knew nothing of. Interesting thing was not a one of these dogs had an aggressive bone in their frail bodies. But on those chains, I guess they did their jobs.

All of them with the exception of Raven managed to find placement. Raven is now 8 1/2 years old, and as hard as it is to accept, she has found love and comfort being in a shelter for the last 1,213 days. And why wouldn’t she? This is the best life she’s ever had. She’s had a roof over her head, a bed to sleep on, meals that come regularly, good health, and love that knows no boundaries.

Raven is a quiet girl, she gratefully accepts whatever comes her way and never asks for extra. Unless it’s a Cheezit, peanut butter, or a hot dog. She is safe to leave alone unattended, as she has shown us at the front desk. If you’re with her, she’s lying somewhere close, just soaking up the nearness. If not, she’s either in the crate she puts herself in, or enjoying a siesta on her bed. She’s earned the gold star of trustworthiness. Raven enjoys outside time and walks. She’s one of the calmest dogs we have.

Raven would do so well in a quiet home with someone that was happy just to share their space with her. But if she never finds that person who’s willing to give her that opportunity, at least we know she’s still enjoying her best life.
