Heartfelt words from a volunteer at our shelter ❤️
To the person who abandoned this guy:
Did you honestly think your cat would be just fine after you abandoned him? If you thought A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue would have noticed him sooner, you were wrong on both thoughts.
Newsflash, taking an indoor cat (which he clearly was) and forcing him to be outside caused him so much stress. Feral cats don't cry- he did and loudly. We don't know how long he was out there for. His cries attracted other animals to him. He got beat up because of you! His front leg is so swollen, he's limping. His poor nose and entire body has scratches and wounds everywhere. Think before you just discard an animal like they're trash!
I heard him crying while a dog was being taken out. Ferals don't cry! I knew something was wrong. He came up to me. I almost had him. Another cat started staring him down. They got into a fight and took it into the woods. Pitch black and I didn't care, I went in after them. Branches and thorns hitting my body. "It's ok buddy, I'm coming," I just kept yelling out. I could hear them fighting. I was able to stop the fight but they separated and hobbled off deeper. I followed him. He kept crying. Hit water. Couldn't go around it. "Hold on dude." I kept cursing you out for leaving him to defend himself. I couldn't hear him anymore. He was too deep. I had to get out. Walked around. One more try but a different entrance. I could feel the thorns scraping against my leg. "Where are you bud?" A cry let out. There you are! He started limping away. "Wait! You're ok!" Lisa, grabbed me a can of wet food and brought it to me. Pop open the can and here he came hobbling. He was so hungry! The colony wouldn't let him eat. He wasn't part of their family. He was an intruder. Again, think before you go and dump an animal! His butt went up when I pet him. I scruffed him and picked him up! "I got you, friend. You're going to be ok!"
Turns out I was right! He was painful, but he was friendly! I affectionately named him "Chez." He matters to me now. He's part of my rescue family. He won't become a forever Sanchez, but Chez has me in his corner for life now.
Don't abandon an animal. Whether they were tied up in a yard or sleeping on your couch, that's what they know! They don't know how to fend for themselves. You've provided their food, you're their resource, and now you're telling them to go get food on their own? Do you really think that because they're an animal they know how to hunt? It's their natural instinct is your thought? You're wrong!
Chez is one of the lucky ones to have been found and taken in by a rescue. Please do better. He didn't deserve this!
