Great shoutout from our friends at Florida Ranch Sorting thanks everyone. looking forward to the cowboy cart challenge next month.

FRS Sorter Spotlight Amy Sodrel. When Ranch Sorting came into Amy Sodrel’s life in November of 2022, she had never ridden a horse before. What started as her husband Danny’s idea to get back in the saddle quickly turned into a life-changing family adventure.

Danny made a few calls to friends who owned sorting horses and soon told Amy he had found one he wanted her to try — just to see if she could actually ride. They tried the horse, bought her… and then bought two more. Just like that, they were all in. The very next weekend, Amy found herself at her first show.

But for Amy, sorting has always been about more than competition. The best part? Doing it together as a family. The shared weekends, the learning curves, and the small victories have made it something truly special.

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. One of Amy’s biggest pet peeves is hearing experienced riders complain about drawing a beginner. She makes it a point to say loud enough for others to hear, “Just remember, we were all beginners at some point.”

She knows that feeling firsthand. In her early days, she heard the whispers. It discouraged her so much that she once told Danny she didn’t want to ride anymore. But he encouraged her to stick with it and promised she would learn how to read cows with time.

Today, Amy shares the advice that carried her through:

If you’re just starting out and feeling discouraged — stay with it. Growth comes with grit, and every great sorter was once a beginner.
