Posting from yesterday. And a long post lol
As you know, I've got Duffy, the unhandled mustang, in a couple of weeks ago. She's gotten very calm with me cleaning her stall now. I was standing over her bucket while she ate to get some touches in but decided, since she's so food driven, to start feeding her out of a bucket in my hands this past week. We've made a huge progress yesterday. I've spent my time getting her to trust me and allow me in her space or her in mine. I've been doing "touches" with the handle of the fork for a while (mostly for safety of us both) but yesterday was our first actual touches and she handled it well. The first time we tried this she flipped out and about came out of the stall. Yesterday was also managed to get a lead rope clipped to her halter to start the leading process. We ALSO got our first complete touches on her right side. She's always been left sided to me no matter where she was in the stall. I managed to get her turned and show me her right side so we got that side too. We also have been doing some desensitization with the shavings. She doesn't mind me bringing the bags in, opening or shaking them out and she's gotten used to me throwing the shaving on her legs. Lots of progress made yesterday. Slow and easy wins the race 🫶 we dont chute them and make them trust, we let them do that. ❤️❤️
