Every Wednesday, we’ll be spotlighting one of our adoptable dogs, and this sweet girl is kicking things off…as she’s the only one!

Apple may take a little time to warm up, but once you’re in her circle, you’re in for life. She’s the kind of dog who will happily curl up beside you for a Netflix marathon and then turn around and run NASCAR laps around the backyard with pure joy.

At just 2.5 years old, Apple is spayed, crate trained, potty trained, and already has a training foundation in place. But the best part? Her journey doesn’t stop when she leaves us.

Attention pet owners, we officially have another bug that we have to keep our eyes out for! ⬇️

Most pet owners have never heard of New World screwworm, yet it’s one of the most destructive parasites affecting animals. Unlike typical maggots that feed on dead tissue, screwworm larvae invade and feed on living tissue. Combined with the fact that a single female fly can lay hundreds of eggs in or near a wound, a minor injury can quickly become a serious medical concern.

With confirmed New World screwworm cases in Mexico, Texas, and New Mexico, and concerns about spread to neighboring states, pet parents should know the warning signs, prevention and treatment strategies.

To help protect your pet in high-risk areas:

🪰 Check your pet daily for wounds, cuts, swelling, and skin irritations. Screwworm flies are attracted to open wounds, tick bites, ear infections, hot spots, surgical incisions, and other areas of damaged skin.

🪰 Keep all wounds clean, protected, and treated promptly. Any cut, scratch, or skin lesion should be monitored closely and never left unattended.

🪰 Know the warning signs of infestation. Watch for swelling, discharge, a foul odor, excessive licking, pain, or a wound that appears to be getting larger instead of healing. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any of these signs.

🪰 Use fly-control measures and repellents consistently, especially if your pet has a wound or recent surgical site.

This morning, Bodak reminded me of something we often forget.

Dogs don’t spend their days worrying about tomorrow or replaying yesterday. They simply experience the moment they’re in.

The power of a dog is immeasurable, but one of the greatest lessons they teach us is often the simplest:

Slow down.

Sit still.

Be where your feet are.

Sometimes the best moments in life aren’t the ones we plan for, they’re the ones we pause long enough to notice. ♥️

A huge welcome to Ollie and his mom! 🎉

Not only did they complete their consult today, but they were also the very first family to complete a consult in our new space! 🧡

Ollie is a big, fluffy boy with lots of potential, and we’re excited to help his mom learn how to better communicate with him while rebuilding some of his foundation skills. Our goal is to create more clarity, consistency, and duration with his commands so he can be successful both at home and out in the world.

We’ll also be tackling some leash reactivity along the way, but before we worry about what happens on the end of the leash, Ollie needs to learn something equally important how to have an off switch. 🙌🏻

We’re excited to watch this team grow together and can’t wait to share their progress! 🐾❤️

The power of play is something that’s often underestimated.

One of the things I’m most proud to offer my clients is safe, structured dog-to-dog socialization opportunities. Does that mean I think dogs need to be playing all day, every day? Absolutely not. In fact, many dogs benefit from learning how to simply coexist.

That said, appropriate play can be a powerful tool. It can help build confidence, improve social skills, provide a healthy outlet for energy, and in some cases even support dogs struggling with reactivity.

What many people don’t realize is that running a successful pack social is truly an art form. It’s not just about opening a gate and hoping for the best. You’re constantly observing body language, advocating for individual dogs, managing energy levels, and making decisions in real time. And when you’re working with real-world dogs not just the “cupcake dogs” as I like to call them, it becomes even more important.

The best part? Soon we’ll be opening these opportunities up for clients to attend and learn firsthand. Not only will your dog benefit, but you’ll gain valuable skills in understanding canine communication and social dynamics too. 🙌🏻🐾 🐾⛰️☀️ We gain adventure into the souls of our clients and their dogs ☀️⛰️🐾

As it turns out, I’ve been training dogs all wrong for the last decade. 🤣

Apparently, I should’ve been using this method instead. Not only would it train dogs, but I have a feeling a few wives might be taking notes too. 👀😂
