Benefit Pack Walk for Cheeto || June 14th at 10 AM

One of our staff members, Rachel, just learned that her dog Cheeto has a full CCL tear and partial meniscus tear. Cheeto needs to undergo surgery to repair the ligaments in his leg. This surgery will cost Rachel around $7,000, so all proceeds from this pack walk will go towards Cheeto’s surgery and recovery.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to donate, you can Venmo Rachel-Loughren. Rachel and Cheeto appreciate all your kind messages, words of encouragement, and donations and they navigate this. We hope to see you there!

Introducing Emma: our May Client Spotlight

Emma is a 4 year old Golden Retriever (she celebrates her fifth birthday next month) who lives outside of Brecksville with her mom, Katy. Emma has been a great companion for her since Katy decided to retire. Katy’s favorite thing about Emma is how she is always ready to enjoy the next adventure, whether that be a walk, hike, or swimming.

Emma came to us in February 2026 because Katy felt she was still struggling to manage Emma’s overexcitement, counter surfing, off leash recall, and other impulsive behaviors despite ongoing training with a different trainer. At the assessment it was determined that Emma was a very obedient dog, but nothing was being done to teach her that off switch that Katy so desperately wanted. Katy wanted to get Emma to a place where she could trust her not to jump on people or steal things from their hands, learn more about how to work through that excitement, and teach Emma how to settle on her own.

Over the last 3.5 months this team has made huge strides! Katy said the most valuable thing she has learned through training is to lessen the constant stimulation she is providing to Emma and allow Emma to work through some of that boredom. For example, Katy used to constantly pet and talk to Emma, whereas now Katy gives direction and holds Emma accountable. Katy also noted that there is more to exercise than just fetch and walks. Finding ways to exercise Emma’s brain are beneficial as well. Katy and Emma continue to work on entering new situations with a calm and relaxed approach. Katy continues to grow as a handler and gets better and better about stepping outside of her comfort zone to try new experiences with Emma.

Meet our tallest client spotlight to date, Taj!

Taj is a 10 month old Kangal who lives outside of Akron with his parents. If you’re not familiar, a Kangal is a Turkish livestock guardian. Kangals can reach up to 33 inches in height and weigh up to 150 lbs! Taj’s mom, JJ, said her favorite thing about Taj is how sweet he is and that he gives the best kisses.

Taj started coming to training around 7 months old because his parents wanted to set their large puppy up for success. They originally reached out to address jumping and leash manners, and work towards Taj becoming a therapy dog and a solid hiking companion.

JJ and Taj continue to work on sit and down stays around distractions, walking nicely on leash, and building confidence on different floor textures. The most important thing JJ has learned during training is that consistency and structure are key to success. By teaching Taj the rules and enforcing those expectations, Taj is blossoming into a very sweet, loving, and giant teenager.

“Taj is a great puppy and the Kangal breed is a very smart and independent breed. We knew before we got him that proper and consistent training is a must! He is a good puppy and wants to learn! We are so pleased with the progress that Kel has made with him! We also love that he can now participate in the day care services at TPDT. We wanted him to have social play time with other dogs but we were uncomfortable with other dog day care centers, that really do not monitor the dogs playing etc. and allow too many dogs playing at once. We like that TPDT controls the play groups and we like that they know which dogs get along with what dog!”

Meet our small but mighty February board and train crew!

Cosmo and Bruce joined us for two and three week board and trains this winter so they could have a fun-filled summer with their families. Cosmo may look familiar as he is a frequent flyer at pack walks and completed puppy training with us. We probably won’t be seeing Bruce as he prepares for a big out of state move later this year!

If you are interested in a board and train for your dog, please fill out the inquiry on our website. We are currently booking into the June and July months, so don’t wait!
