I’d like to address one of the biggest issues I see doing pet sitting. This is for educational purposes only and NOT to shame anyone! One of the first things I do in most homes is wash pet bowls! Often times food & water dishes are covered in dried up food matter, caked with oily kibble crumbs, discolored from biofilm or just in need of a good wash! These conditions can be a breeding ground for bacteria & mold and may lead to many health issues including UTI’s, gastrointestinal issues, and various other illnesses. Something else to consider is how long kibble has been sitting in your pet’s dishes. Kibble can also lose palatability & nutritional value if left uneaten for long periods of time (think of your cereal box being left open for a week). Are you purchasing a 40 lb bag of food for a 7 lb Yorkie? It may be a better value to buy “big”, but again, your pet isn’t benefiting from eating old food that has been oxidizing for weeks or months. Just a few things for consideration for the health & wellbeing of your furry family! We all want them to thrive! 💜
