Happy Friday! Hope everyone is having a happy day!
Last year, we were asked to help with a very unusual rescue—six tortoises who had lived together for over 30 years needed a home. These gentle souls had formed a bond unlike anything we’d ever seen. Wherever one went, the others followed. They basked together, ate together, and even slept side by side.
We knew right away that we could never separate them. After three decades as a family, it wouldn’t have been fair to ask them to live apart. But finding someone willing to open their home to six tortoises at once proved to be a challenge. For months, we searched. We reached out to other rescues, sanctuaries, and animal lovers far and wide. No one could take them all.
Meanwhile, the tortoises waited patiently, always together. Their bond was a quiet reminder of loyalty and companionship—the kind that only grows stronger with time.
In the end, we realized that the only way to honor their story was to keep them together here, where they would be safe, loved, and able to spend the rest of their years side by side.
Now, every time we see them sunbathing in a perfect little circle or sharing their food in harmony, or holding hands we’re reminded why we do this work, because every animal deserves not only safety, but a family that loves them!
