the heart of Life Farmsđź’š

Victor, Rowland, and Bob carry this farm through thick and thin

they show up early, stay late, and keep the jokes coming almost as steady as the harvests

they’re the reason the foundation of Life Farms stays strong, and the reason we’re always laughing and learning

our farm grows because of their dedication and leadership, and we wouldn’t be here without them

Its hard to believe that we’re already in the final stretch of summer

We only have 3 Saturdays left at .stpete before it closes for the month of September

During September, you can still find us at the farm on Friday, Saturday, and Monday and at on Saturday

We absolutely cannot wait for October when our main growing season begins, CSA program starts, the St. Pete Market returns, and more

Summer gives us the time we need to plan for the upcoming season and work on overdue projects, but we can’t wait until our fields are full of veggies again

Thank you for supporting us through all the seasons—both weather and life 💚

Get to know Farmer Victor! đź’š

Victor has been with Life Farms since the very beginning and has played a vital role in building it from the ground up.

Victor is thoughtful, attentive, and brings a calming, joyful presence to everything he does. He takes the time to share his knowledge, to listen, and to make sure the people around him feel supported.

He’s a firm believer that you can read about farming all day, but real understanding comes from working the land and learning through experience. He’s spent over a decade on this farm doing exactly that.

A few fun facts about Victor:
-His favorite crops to grow are winter squash, tomatoes, and carrots.
-His favorite part of working at Life Farms is getting to grow organic vegetables alongside coworkers, volunteers, and anyone who wants to learn.

We’re SO lucky to have him!!!

bicolor okra ❤️💚

this time of the year we are harvesting from our okra plants daily as they produce heavily in the middle of summer

okra gets a bad rap because it’s slimy, but when prepared correctly, that “slime” can be either desirable for your dish or eliminated entirely

okra is mucilaginous, meaning it contains soluble fiber that supports digestion and gut health

some of our favorite ways to use okra: fried (duh!), gumbo, stewed with tomatoes and onions, quick-pickled, sautéed with garlic, or simply tossed on the grill whole

if you’ve never tried okra or always thought you hated it, our fresh, organically grown okra might just change your mind

We’re growing around 30 different varieties of tomatoes right now! 🍅

One of the most fun things about farming is running trials to see which varieties grow best in your specific ecosystem

The slower summers make the perfect time for us to focus on projects like this

Victor researched and planted varieties known for their flavor, productivity, disease resistance, weather tolerance, and more

As the tomatoes ripen, it’s been so fun to try the different ones with our crew (and with you!) and hear everyone’s feedback on which ones they love most and why

Running trials like this helps us grow better food year after year, with varieties that thrive in our soil and climate

Have you picked up any of our tomatoes recently? If so, tell us which ones were your favs! And if not, come see us at the farm or market soon while they’re still in season!

You can find us every week at:
•Our farm- Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 10-3
• Friday & Saturday from 9-2
• .stpete from 9-1

we’re squashing the summer heat in our no-till field!

we don’t till the soil, instead we protect it and nourish it

one way we do that is by covering the soil with wood chips

this reduces evaporation, insulates the soil, and supports microbial life

even with high air temps, the soil stays cool enough to nourish our plants 🌱 💚

The calendar may not say so yet, but it’s full-blown summer at the farm 🌞

Every summer, we replace most of our fields with cover crops to protect and regenerate the soil when it’s too hot to grow much.

Thankfully, there are still some things we can grow through the summer heat—like certain flowers, tomatoes, peppers, okra, Malabar spinach, microgreens, and a few others.

We also partner with farms north of us that can grow more than we can in the summer, so we can keep offering the nutrient-dense, delicious food you’re used to.

That said, summer is still a really slow season for us. People are on vacation, it’s hot, the market isn’t as fun when you’re sweating through your shirt—we get it. But we could really use your support, even in the heat!

We’re having a sale Monday, June 16th from 10–3 at our farm:
• 50% off all sourdough breads
• 30% off all veggies
• 10% off all meats

Please come out and show your support (even if it means a few mosquito bites) đź’š

The seasons are shifting, and so is our schedule. Read below to stay in the know!

Last weekend was our final .stpete at Al Lang Stadium but the market doesn’t close for the summer—it just moves to Williams Park under the big oak trees and condenses a bit.

We are still at every Friday and Saturday through the end of June. After that, it changes locations, drops Fridays, and adjusts hours slightly.

Our farm store is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays from 10–3 all summer. We carry our own produce, plus a carefully chosen selection of pasture-raised meats, sourdough breads, eggs, and much more from local farms and makers we trust.

We’re proud to partner with others in our community who care deeply about what they do and share the same standards we believe in. These partnerships let us offer a wider range of products, including .and.pups and more. Most of these are only available at the farm, not the markets.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us this season, whether at the markets or on the farm. Your support and enthusiasm make growing food for our community even more meaningful. We hope to see you this summer, heat and allđź’š
