As Veterinary Technician Week comes to an end, we want to make sure everyone else knows how awesome our support staff is! 🩺💗 Without good techs, there are no good doctors - in other words, they make us look good! Technicians prepare everything for surgery, pack all of our vaccine and supplies for farm calls, and often know what supplies and treatments we will reach for before we even have decided. They make our world go ‘round! Thank you to all veterinary technicians, but especially the ones we know and love here at Clay Vet Clinic! 🐶

Please help us give a warm welcome to Katie! Katie recently started with us as a veterinary assistant. She comes to us with extensive experience working in a small animal clinic and volunteering with horses! Outside of work, Katie enjoys riding horses and recently took up barrel racing. She also has one dog and one cat of her own! We look forward to having Katie as part of our team!

It's not every day that you get to work on deer! 🦌 Dr. Luke recently got to care for a deer named Tater! Tater had an injury to his nose/mouth that we're suspicious was from running into something as he only has partial vision. After clean it up really well and debriding the tissue, Dr. Luke was able to suture it up and get Tater looking handsome again!

Let’s talk nitrates! 🧪🌱 Nitrates are nitrogen compounds that are naturally occurring in the soil. Plants absorb them and under optimal conditions, they convert them to protein. In suboptimal conditions, plants absorb nitrates faster than they can metabolize them, leading to accumulation. 👎🏼

Why do we care? In high concentrations, nitrates are dangerous for our livestock to consume. To prevent down cows, abortions, and fatalities, we often advise livestock owners to test for nitrates before grazing or feeding bales!

Week One Basic Class WILL still be held TODAY as scheduled — rain or shine!

Grab your leash, some tasty treats, bring your pup, and maybe pack a rain jacket. ☔ though we are lucky and have a nice big covered arena to train under. 🐕 We’ll see everyone at class.
