On Golden Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal sanctuary located on 105 acres in Northwest Oregon that provides food, shelter, medical care, love and compassion to large animals in need.

We’re opening the gates & you’re invited!!

Come spend the day with us at On Golden Rescue for our 2026 Open House on Saturday, September 12!

Wander the sanctuary, meet some of our 45+ residents, explore our 105 acres and see firsthand what your support makes possible. Whether you’ve followed OGR for years or have always wanted to see what life at the sanctuary is really like, this is the perfect excuse to come out and visit.

We’ll have:
-Hayrides around the property
-A hay bale photo booth
-Kids’ crafts
-105 acres to explore
& plenty of opportunities to learn more about our animals and the work happening at OGR

Meet our newest little helpers at On Golden Rescue: baby Barn Swallows. These tiny insect‑eaters devour thousands of flies and mosquitoes, keeping our barns comfortable for every resident. At OGR, we work with nature not against it. 🪶

Meet Tangie (29) and Tater (30)!!

These two have been best friends for years, and wherever one goes, the other isn't far behind. After spending so much of their lives together, the thought of separating them just didn't feel right.

When their family reached out to On Golden Rescue, they weren't looking to surrender horses they loved; they just needed a helping hand.

They had the pasture, the shelter, and the ability to care for Tangie and Tater every day, but as the horses got older, the cost of senior care kept adding up. Between veterinary exams, vaccinations, dental work, quality hay, senior feed, and supplements, it became more than they could manage on their own.

That's exactly why we created our Home Haven Program.

Home Haven gives senior and at-risk horses the chance to stay where they're happiest with the people who love them. Instead of asking families to say goodbye, we step in to help cover the specialized care these horses need while continuing to oversee their wellbeing. Because of Home Haven Tangie & Tater get to recieve vet care & nutrition they need all while staying together and remaining with the family they know and trust.

Sometimes rescue isn't about bringing an animal somewhere new. Sometimes it's about making sure they never have to leave home in the first place.

Every veterinary visit, dental float, vaccination, bale of hay, and senior supplement is possible because of supporters like you. Your generosity doesn't just help Tangie and Tater; it helps us give more senior horses the chance to grow old with the people who love them.

Thirteen equines at OGR just received essential dental care! For some, it was their first exam in years; for others, it was routine maintenance to keep them healthy and comfortable.

Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor who specifically funded the purchase of a vehicle, OGR was able to purchase a 2021 Ford Transit van. This has become one of the most valuable tools in our daily operations.

With its extended wheelbase and large enclosed cargo area, the van allows us to safely haul hay, feed, bedding, fencing supplies, veterinary equipment, and countless other materials needed to care for our residents.

The van also serves another important purpose—it allows us to safely transport our smaller residents, including mini-horses, mini-donkeys, and goats when veterinary care, emergencies, or special circumstances require travel.

And if you’ve seen the van around town, you know it’s impossible to miss! The incredible artwork and graphics were created by Robert and the talented team at The Sign Company in Hillsboro. They transformed the van into a rolling ambassador for OGR, helping us share our mission everywhere we go. Their work is truly a masterpiece, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

While we strive to direct the majority of every donation toward the direct care of the animals, strategic investments in infrastructure are equally important. Reliable equipment, safe transportation, and operational efficiencies allow us to care for more animals, respond more effectively to emergencies, support our volunteers, and ensure that every dollar goes further.

Max has had a tough couple of weeks…no appetite, thinning coat, and a scary emergency vet visit after he was found slumped over and vomiting.

With treatment, round‑the‑clock care, and his best friend Poppy refusing to leave his side, he slowly started to turn the corner.
And this week, something finally clicked. Max is eating again, gaining weight, and spending most of his day happily buried in a bucket of orchard grass. His spark is coming back.
