Had to make Lady Mae the star again today. She is a good momma out there in the pasture with some rambunctious calves 💚

Happy November, Y'all🍁🍂🦃

Thankful and appreciative of each and every one of my clients💚

🚨 Announcement 🚨

Going into this cold weather months, I ask to please hold your Pickup Dates, as others would like appointments sooner than I can offer them, I really appreciate it💚

I have had a few NO Shows, and I am charging NO milage to find NO blankets left out. Respectfully I understand we forget things at times, but I can't accept No Shows. To better serve ALL my clients, I will have to start rescheduling the No Shows at later available dates rather than working them in from here forward! I work off a weekly blanket limit schedule in order for me to be out away from the shop twice a week for Pickup and Delivery Days, as well as still bringing high Quality and Performance to my clients. It also makes it hard on my Pickup N Delivery Day's scheduled routing. It may be a Tuesday Tennessee Pickup Day, but i may be picking up in East TN all day after my early morning locals, and not back in Montgomery County till the sun goes down, to have to drive back out to Woodlawn or Cunningham before getting back to my farm in Sango. With working in No Show blankets, on top of my week's blanket count, it can overwhelm me working around the clock 7 days a week. I have a kind and caring heart that Values my clients and do not want a horse in the cold without his her blanket, so I give my ALL in helping the best I can....but After the Rain has to keep it Simple💚 in order to bring Quality and Performance to my clients that I offer each and every one of them and their horses.

On Drop-off questions: Some have reached out asking where my drop off locations are at, as well as if I would start drop off locations in 2026. I apologize for that I will not, it beats the purpose of bringing superior premium service to my clients. I do not want clients to have to take the time to tag each of their horse blankets, to bagging their blankets, to taking the time to drop them off at a location, to worrying when and who picks up their blankets, to having to fill out blanket forms...that's ALL my job and me valuing my clients giving their time back💚 Drop Off locations will ONLY be at Chasing Dreams Fun Show's spring and fall shows for Kentucky. I am currently deciding on a Tennessee event for the Big South Fork/ Jamestown area for 2026. These drop off events will still have to have blanket counts on my schedule prior to the events.

Kind Regards,
Amylou~ ATR Owner🌲🐴🌿💚

🧥🐴 Blanketing Horses: When to Blanket — and When Not To

Every fall, horse owners debate: “Should I blanket my horse?”
Here’s what science says 👇

1️⃣ Horses have incredible built-in insulation.
Their winter coats trap air like a down jacket, and skin muscles lift the hairs (piloerection) to add warmth. A healthy, unclipped horse with access to shelter and adequate feed can stay comfortable in temperatures as low as 5°F (-15°C).
📚 Reference: Morgan et al., 2002, “Thermoregulation of Horses During Cold Exposure,” Equine Veterinary Journal.

2️⃣ Over-blanketing can make them colder.
If a blanket is too heavy, it flattens the coat, removing that insulating air layer — and can cause sweating, which chills the horse when it evaporates.
📚 Reference: Autio et al., 2007, “Response of Horses to Cold Weather and Blanketing,” Applied Animal Behaviour Science.

3️⃣ Energy from forage is the best heater.
Digesting hay produces internal heat — up to 30% more warmth than grain. That’s why free-choice hay is often better than a thick blanket.
📚 Reference: Cymbaluk & Christison, 1989, “Environmental Effects on Thermoregulation and Energy Balance in Horses,” Canadian Journal of Animal Science.

4️⃣ When blanketing is a good idea:
✅ Clipped horses (no natural coat)
✅ Senior or underweight horses
✅ Horses with chronic illness
✅ Wet, windy, or freezing rain conditions
✅ Horses newly moved from a warm to cold climate

5️⃣ When to skip the blanket:
🚫 Healthy horses with full winter coats and windbreaks
🚫 When daytime temperatures rise above freezing
🚫 If the horse is active and sweats under the blanket

Bottom line:
👉 Blanket for comfort, not out of guilt.
👉 Use your hands — if the horse’s chest, shoulder, and base of neck feel warm and dry, they’re managing just fine.

Thursday's Let's Talk💚

Duct Tape!

Duct tape is not good for quick fix/ repairing 🐴blanket liners for several reasons!

Duct tape adhesive can damage a horse blanket's liner, as well as cause irritation, especially for our most sensitive skin horses🌿 Duct tape gets stiff and rubs the skin with a horse's movements. It will not allow the blanket to breath nor allow a blanket to absorb sweat. Large areas of duct tape usage can trap moisture within the layers of the blanket, where mold can start to grow. Duct tape is not durable enough either when used on the liners with the constant movements of a horse. The friction can cause the tape to come loose, where the chemical adhesive glue clings to your horse's skin. The adhesive can get very sticky when heated up, causing more damage when it comes to making permanent repairs to a horse blanket liner. It will collect dust, debris, and hair, causing even more irritation to a horse's skin. While some use duct tape as a quick fix to outer materials, its is not durable for the soft materials of a liner NOR HEALTHY 🌿 for a horse's sensitive skin!

This is where ATR🌲🐴🌿 comes in valuing our clients and their horses even more! We have yalls horse's backs💚We gift our clients with a silky nonirritating repair patch specifically for those horse blanket liners that need a quick fix, till ATR🌲🐴🌿 can make the permanent repairs for you.

Happy Trails Yall🤠
