💔 TODAY WAS THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL'S BACK. 😭🐾
We never imagined we would have to write this post, but here we are.
Peace Love and Paws Rescue is officially CLOSED FOR INTAKE. 💔
We are drowning.
We are financially depleted, emotionally exhausted, physically stretched beyond our limits, and mentally spent.
The continuous medical cases we unknowingly take on have pushed us to the breaking point. We are down to mere dollars in our bank account. Our fosters are stretched thin. Our volunteers are exhausted. And our hearts are breaking.
💔 This morning was a heartbreaking reminder of why we do this work—and why we simply cannot continue without help.
We picked up what we were told was a 1-year-old Chihuahua. When our foster arrived to collect her, the smell of rotting flesh was overwhelming.
When she turned this tiny girl over, she discovered a huge, gaping wound in her abdomen.
This little dog had reportedly spent five days in a shelter with this injury. The tissue had become necrotic. She needed surgery. She also needed most of her teeth removed.
And she wasn't 1 year old. She was 10. 💔
We took her to the veterinarian, where we received even more devastating news.
Her little body was riddled with cancer. 😭
This sweet senior had spent what would turn out to be the final days of her life confined to a cage measuring approximately 3 feet by 2 feet.
No walks. No medical treatment for her horrific wound. No antibiotics.
We cannot begin to describe the heartbreak, anger, and helplessness we feel. We take solace in the fact that she spent 1 night in a foster home, 1 night loved and treasured.
She deserved better.
Every single one of them deserves better. 💔
But the reality is that we cannot save them all, no matter how desperately we want to. This is not meant to be a post to go after our hard workers and volunteers at city shelters, this is to highlight the crisis we are in. Even basic medical care is not viable when resources are non existent.
🐾 SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
For now, we can no longer take in dogs or cats into our rescue.
Not because we don't care.
Not because we don't want to help.
But because we have absolutely no fosters, no funds.
We need to get the animals already in our care adopted into loving homes.
We need fosters.
And we desperately need financial support.
💰 We need to raise approximately $7,000 just to cover ONE outstanding veterinary bill. Yes, you read that correctly. ONE BILL. And we have many more.
Behind every animal we save are veterinary bills, medications, surgeries, food, supplies, sleepless nights, and volunteers who give everything they have.
We have given everything we can, and right now, it still isn't enough.
