Every time I have to drive a dog to the vet I seriously hear this theme song and imagine the dog cursing me because they thought they were going to the park.

Amala finally went in for her surgery today. She had to get a dental with several teeth removed. She also had four ulcerated masses. Two of the masses will be sent in for biopsies. As you can imagine this is an expensive surgery even with our discount. The low end of the surgery was quoted $1500 and the high end which is because of teeth they may have to remove was quoted as $2200.

Right now we have about $700 in the bank and three more surgery scheduled after this one for our dogs. The bill Western is extremely high. It’s about $22,000. We’d like to pay it down and would appreciate any donations no matter the size even a dollar helps trust me every dollar helps.

Adoptions have been slow because as you know we Rescue mostly Chihuahuas, seniors, and some of our dogs have serious health issues. We currently have 52 dogs in our rescue.

Hey everyone, Bailey is finally getting spayed at Rancho West Animal Hospital. We would really appreciate donations to help pay for her spay and microchip today. There are several ways to donate, which I will list at the end of this post. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Bailey, please go to our website and complete either the foster or adoption application. We do ask that you live within at least an hour and a half of where she is being fostered, which is currently in Pomona.

Bailey is a young, adorable terrier mix. She was brought to the owner of the Rescue's home and asked if they wanted her. She belonged to a neighbor down the street who moved out and left four dogs behind, including Bailey. It's clear Bailey was not with her mom long enough, because she lacks some social cues her mom would have taught her. But she's smart and a quick learner. She is not yet 20 weeks old, so we have not given her her rabies shot, but she has received all of her other vaccinations, is being spayed today, and microchipped. She is not potty trained, but she has not been allowed to go outside either, because she is not fully vaccinated. She is not leash trained. She is a puppy, and she's going to take a lot of work. She has a lot of energy, but it's energy that can be channeled into great training. She is kennel trained. She currently weighs 9 pounds, and we believe she is probably 12 to 13 weeks old. We know that mama is a terrier, and believe papa was a Pomeranian. Bailey just wants to be loved; she loves being held. She's had a couple of baths and has done really well. Poor Bailey, when she came to us, was covered in fleas and ticks. She's also been heartworm tested, and has had a full blood panel to rule out any other kind of tick-borne diseases. She is very food motivated. If you want to add some spice to your life, Bailey is your girl. We don't think that she understood English, since the family that abandoned her were Spanish-speaking, but she is learning. We've been working with her on two commands for now, 'stay' and 'sit'; she kind of has 'stay' down, but 'sit' is still a no-go. So, if you're ready for a furry little bundle of energy and joy, Bailey is the perfect pup for you. And don't worry, she won't mind if you're not fluent in Spanish - she's a quick learner, just like her new owners will be.

Deep thoughts by Maggie the fruit bat…🍓🦇✨

If only we could read her mind. Her eyes peeking out beneath her Gandalf brows say so much. Maybe she’s mad at her foster for the long day at the vet. Maybe she’s thinking about cheese. Maybe she’s plotting her next evil sneak attack on the house cat who is four times her size. 🐈‍⬛ What we know for sure, is that she has a gnarly allergy to something still unknown. She is being poked and prodded with 3 medications, a topical spray (she HATES), medicated flushes, and a soothing salve. Thankfully, she should be better in no time.

‼️‼️HELP! We need your donations.‼️‼️

Maggie has an unusual and very itchy spot on her neck. It’s somewhat large for her size and worrisome. She will receive veterinary care to try and determine what the heck this is.

Maggie has spent the day being carried around and nestled into her foster as her foster works, since a cone is not an option where this is located. Maggie doesn’t seem to mind, but is not her normal, spritely self. She didn’t even react to her foster’s dirty socks. (If you’ve been following her story you know how unusual that is.😢🧦She even mustered the energy to retrieve them after her recent dental surgery.)

I'm getting some serious sass from Cannoli, who's throwing a tantrum as I try to drag him outside. When I called him to join the other dogs outside, he gave me the ultimate puppy dog eye-roll, flopped onto his back, and pretended to snooze. If you're in the market for a dog who will roll over at the words go outside then Cannoli is your boy. If you don’t mind a dog who will throw his bowl at you because it’s empty Cannoli is your boy. All joking aside Cannoli is one of the best little dogs we’ve had in our rescue. He is a chug, he weighs about 12 pounds, he is neutered vaccinated and microchip, and he is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. Naomi is such a love. Heterchromia gives her a unique look through two different and beautifully colored eyes. 🩵

Naomi was lovingly surrendered to GLAR when her former owner wanted more for Naomi than what she was able to provide. Since joining our rescue, she's been caught up on overdue vetting and a given a whole bunch of love through her foster. But what she most needs is her forever home.

We love a good alumni update.🥹😍

If you don’t remember, Otis came to us from Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento. He arrived with a slew of health issues. His foster-turned-forever-mom, Sarah, stepped right in and took the lead helping to connect him with the care he needed. In the process, Sarah and Otis came to realize they had found forever in one another. We couldn’t have been happier when she decided to adopt him.

Sarah sent these photos of Otis enjoying the sling life. She added, “He's amazing! He always wants to be close to people. Finally heard him bark a few days ago, I couldn't figure out which one was barking because I didn't expect it to be him. 😆 He has three teeth left after his dental, is a happy little guy most of the time, but plays the part of grumpy old man to a T.” How wonderful for Otis that he gets to. ❤️

A little update on Potato… who may be more of a baked Potato at the moment. 🤭😵‍💫

His foster reports that he did quite well today, despite refusing to cooperate for anyone but her. We can’t say we blame him. ❤️ He is under her and his foster sibling’s watchful care tonight. We trust he’ll be back to his joyful antics in no time.
