Last week Umbrella Creek was a special guest at Copenhagen International School's kindergarten class. We taught the children what it meant to be blind, introduced them to braille, had them play various games with a blindfold on, answered questions they had about how people with visual impairments go about daily life and taught proper etiquette. We taught the children how to ask if someone needs assistance (about consent to touch), how to lead them to specific landmarks for orientation, how to not pet service animals when they are in harness and what the job of service animals is.

Found some amazing tactile maps while on vacation in Cyprus!

Well done Great Falls National Park in Virginia! A tactile map of the falls is on display for visitors with visual impairments. I asked the visitor center if they had any materials in Braille available. Every year they do get several copies of "An Introduction to the Park" in Braille, but they go quick and are already out this year. Hopefully they can be encouraged to get more copies in soon.

It's finally here, the new 2016 BANA UEB Formats! Finally all our UEB braille and formatting will be simpatico! Umbrella Creek has already been studying the new manual and will begin putting it's formats into effect immediately.
