Nature hike at Brooker Creek on a quiet post holiday morning 🐝

Stumbled across these amazing plants on a recent hike 🤩 They were so tiny, only standing about a half an inch at their tallest.

Pink sundew (Drosera capillaris) is an insectivorous wildflower that grows in abundance in wet pinelands, savannas and bogs. The leaf blades are covered in tentacle-like glands that secrete a sticky, acidic substance in which insects become trapped. The leaves then fold in on themselves, ensnaring the insects until digestion is complete. How cool is that!

Several animal rescue groups across the state felt the wrath of recent hurricanes. We have been fortunate enough to be able to help out many including the Peace River Wildlife Center with equipment and supplies.

We have worked with PRWC in the past, taking in bobcat kittens that came to their facility for rehab. Recently Jamie and Victor invited two of their team members including Dr Robin, their staff veterinarian to visit Big Cat Rescue to gather much needed supplies to rebuild their hospital.

We were happy to donate the large commercial style washer and dryer from food prep, a large chest freezer from the enrichment cabin, a refrigerator, microwave from the gift shop, lots of storage shelving and tons of hospital and rehab supplies.

Yesterday Victor and I stopped by the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary to donate a metal food storage cabinet and help with some of the storm clean up. We are so happy to be able to gift supplies to other animal sanctuaries and rescue groups 😊 Was great to see Susan Ford still in action helping animals as a volunteer at the center and check out this amazing artwork created by Pongo the orangutan 🦧 💕
