Callie is a 19 year old calico cat that was initially diagnosed with a brain tumor called a meningioma in 2014 when she was 10 years old. This is the most common tumor in cats and carries a very good prognosis, so her owners pursued surgical removal at that time. Since then, Callie has faced a number of obstacles including a fibrosarcoma requiring surgery and radiation therapy. She had regrowth of her meningioma in 2017 and had stereotactic radiation therapy to further treat the tumor. Radiation therapy commonly leaves the hair white, which you can see on Callie's head. Callie came in for a recheck with Dr. Meghan Slanina in January 2023 and she is still a feisty cat with a good quality of life at home 9 years after a brain tumor diagnosis - almost half her life!

Could Coco be any cuter? He came to see us as a six month old boy for some abnormal episodes. We checked him for a liver shunt, then did an MRI to rule out anything serious in his brain. We are happy to report that all of his tests were normal! @ MedVet Cincinnati

Meet Gunter - this sweet dachshund saw us for cervical, or neck pain. Dachshunds are predisposed to getting disc ruptures, which commonly cause cervical pain. We are managing Gunter with medications and rest for a month. Hopefully he’ll come in feeling much better!

Chanel is an adorable French Bulldog that had back surgery for a disc rupture. Frenchies commonly get disc extrusions in the back and neck. Chanel didn’t have feeling in either of her back legs prior to surgery but by the time she went home, she could feel her back legs again! We are all hoping that she has a quick recovery! @ MedVet Cincinnati

These two cuties are Wiggles and Falcor. They came to see Dr. Slanina for head tremors and an abnormal gait. They were likely born with an abnormality of their cerebellum, which control fine tuned movements. You can see in the videos, their neurologic signs don’t bother them at all, they are happy pups! Our hope is that they will improve some with time. They are currently with Paw Patrol Rescue in Dayton.
