A family owned and operated poultry hatchery since 1924! We have over 50 varieties of chickens, ducks Mt. From those humble beginnings, Mt.

Healthy Hatcheries is a third generation family owned and operated poultry business. The hatchery was started in the mid 1920's by Hugh "Chick" O'Hara (a local pipe fitter) who started out by hatching just a few chicks in his basement for friends and neighbors. Healthy Hatcheries has grown to produce over 4 million chicks, ducks and game birds annually. Our success has been achieved through a combination of good old fashioned hard work, attention to detail and the use of the newest hatching technologies.

Meet Olivia and her two feathered familiars, Creeper (left) and Graffiti (right)!

With names like those, we're pretty sure this trio has Halloween all figured out! 🎃

And here's a little behind-the-scenes magic: Olivia's family admits they photographed Creeper and Graffiti separately and then worked a little Photoshop wizardry to bring this enchanting scene together! 🪄

A huge thank-you to Olivia's family for sharing this wonderfully creative photo with us!

From all of us at Mt. Healthy Hatcheries, have a wickedly wonderful Halloween! 🖤🐥

Enjoying backyard chickens starts with a few simple habits:

Wash your hands with soap and water after handling poultry or anything around your flock. Help children wash theirs, too.
Keep poultry outdoors and away from kitchens and other areas where food is prepared or served.
Children under 5, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems should not handle live poultry.
💛 Love your birds, but skip the kisses and cuddles. (We know it's hard!!!)
Which flock-care habit is second nature at your house?

The Golden Death Layer has been lurking on our website… but for 2027, it’s officially making its way into the pages of the Mt. Healthy catalog.
Striking, unusual, and carrying a name that practically demanded a place on our Rare, Dark & Mystical page.
Have you raised Golden Death Layers? We’d love to hear about them—and see your photos.

Some are rare. Some are mysterious. And some look like they just crawled out of the shadows. 🖤
We've always had a darker side.
It's time you met it.
