Sweet Tweets Cincinnati

Sweet Tweets Cincinnati All-natural birdseed "tweets" for your wildlife friends. Our craft may be pretty to look at, but the intent of our work serves a higher purpose.

We are strong advocates of preserving the world around us and sustaining our planet, and our art helps us fulfill this passion for nature. We design wreaths out of birdseed. Our hope is that someone will find our work to be beautiful and artistic, but the real purpose is to provide food for birds and other backyard critters. We have customers who preserve these wreaths in their homes, and as flat

tering as this may be, our goal is to add beauty to our back yards and feed the birds. Our wreaths are made entirely of birdseed that is a completely organic, edible food source for birds. Specifically, this is black oil sunflower seed, red and white millet, safflower and thistle seed. Our process is simple but lengthy for these products, taking as many as 5-7 days to complete one wreath. We have created molds that are part of our artistic expression and we fill them with a selection of seed that creates an image through layering, hand painting and curing. The seed is held together with a natural and nutritional binder that is made of such ingredients as honey, egg white, corn syrup and a few other edible treats. Those welcome guests to our products include almost ever bird you’ll see in your back yard - from the beautiful spring finches and wrens to the hearty woodpeckers, doves, cardinals, flickers and even red winged black birds. We also build birdhouses out of cedar. When the Indian corn comes in each fall, we cover the houses with corn and detail them out with moss that is grown and harvested in the woods around our farm. The effect is that of the very popular fairy houses. A birdhouse with this Indian corn has a dual purpose. We like to think if it as a ‘bed and breakfast’ for birds. The Indian corn is an excellent food source for larger birds (woodpeckers, blue jays, cardinals, etc.) during the winter months, and in the spring, once the moss and the cobs weather away, the house serves as a nesting box for the smaller song birds (tit mouse, wren, etc.) It is great fun to hear these song birds each spring as they nest in these cedar houses that will last many years. We’ve been in business for over 10 years and love what we do. We hope you and your birds will enjoy our art as much as we love creating it.

Our love of birds motivates us to make our Sweet Tweets. The bonus to what we do is our customers. For over 10 years, we have made some great friends. We know who you are and how far you come to pick up your wreaths and feeders in our driveway, or who wait in line in high school hallways and gyms, street fairs, or COSTCO parking lots. We know many of you by name and have met your friends, your kids, and your husbands, who dutifully carry all those boxes out to the car. We know which show you attend and hope you are ok if we do not see you. You are friends and are part of Sweet Tweets. We value your support and friendship.

Jessica usually sees us at one of the Lakota Shows. She made the drive to pick up an Eagle for her dad on Father's Day. He is a Vietnam Vet and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. They were called the "Screaming Eagles." How cool is that? We are honored to see you in your garden and wish you a happy 4th of July. Thank you for your service.

Did you know that there are over 400 bird species in Ohio? Many are migrants who come here for the summer to breed and raise their young. Many of them fly at night, and we can assist their journey by adjusting our evening lights.

The growth of dense, urban areas along ancient bird migration routes (yes like Cincinnati) poses a significant and often fatal threat to migrating birds. Less artificial light at night can help keep our feathered-friends safe and on their migratory course! Drawing your curtains at night, shifting outdoor lighting downward, or using warmer colored bulbs (amber) or lights under 3000 kelvins is ideal.

Research shows that we can see an 80% decrease in nightly evening bird collisions when lights are turned down. That's easy work for those of us who love our birds.

Now...soften those evening lights. You'll make the birds happy and safe.
