🦄Hickory’s Journey🦄
When Hickory arrived at our barn for Injury Care Board in October '24, he was in a tough spot. His respiratory issues had been ongoing since early 2022, and despite his owner’s tireless efforts—medications, environmental changes, several barn moves and stopped working him —his health continued to decline. By the summer of 2024, things had gotten so serious that euthanasia was being considered.
As a final attempt, his owner brought him to us. We prepared a dedicated care plan with the held of our vet and farrier team, and daily hands-on support from our staff, we slowly started to see changes. It took time and a lot of trial and error, but Hickory began to respond.
Today, he’s nearly symptom-free. He’s back to exercising, recently saddled for the first time in over a year, and most importantly—he’s happy. We’re so grateful to have been part of his journey and excited for what’s ahead for this sweet, resilient horse.
Thank you to Dr. Womble with Orlando Equine Veterinary Care, Inc. and his farrier Mike Harper!
