We've made a very tough decision to consider finding our old girl, Sadie, her 2nd family to spend the rest of her days with. She is mostly blind in her left eye and has an old stifle injury that keeps her slow. She does fine in pasture and light riding with kids, but moving at an extended trot or faster will really sore her up for a week or so.
We are thinking her "traveling partner" will need to be put down this fall before she has to suffer through another winter. She and Sadie are very attached to each other, and we don't have any other horses for Sadie to enjoy retirement with, so we are looking for a retirement-type home for our old friend.
Sadie is a very HEALTHY 2001 model AQHA mare. Sadie is an extremely easy keeper with good teeth. She is good with her feet to trim and shoe, though I'm not sure she would ever need another set of shoes.
She has been a part of our family for 23 years, so understand, finding her a soft place to land with at least one other horse is absolutely mandatory. A pasture pet with the ability for small kids/ grandkids to grab her out of the pasture whenever they feel and go for a light ride would be the perfect scenario.
These videos are from yesterday. Layne pulled her from pasture after not being ridden for a little over a year, and off Sadie and Kaycee rode.
We are in no rush to rehome her, and if we don't find somewhere for her to go, she will stay put, teach Addie the ropes, and we will find her a new partner to hang out with when the time comes.
We will be requiring a decent rehoming fee to ensure she finds the right place.
