Hey y'all, we love when you tell your friends how much you love Dr. Bukenhofer! We are excited to introduce Equine Integrative Veterinary Services' new referral rewards program ๐ŸŒŸSend a Friend๐ŸŒŸ!!
How it works:
1. You refer your friends to EIVS and they schedule an appointment for their horse with Dr. Bukenhofer.
2. When Dr. Buk goes to see their horse, and has them fill out intake paperwork, they tell Dr. Buk you sent them.
3. You get $20 off your horse's next appointment with Dr. Bukenhofer!

Redemption rules:
๐ŸŒŸWhat is the reward? For each appointment seen from a friend you sent, you will get a $20 discount on your horse's next appointment with Dr. Bukenhofer.
๐ŸŒŸCan I send more than one friend? Yes! You can refer as many friends as you would like.
๐ŸŒŸHow many rewards can I use per visit? Discount is limited to one horse per visit, so if you have one horse and two referral rewards, you will get the discounts over the next two visits.
๐ŸŒŸCan I use the discount on more than one horse per visit if I have multiple referrals? Yes! Say you have two horses and two referral rewards, you can use one for each horse for that visit.
๐ŸŒŸSend your friends: Have them schedule an appointment by calling or texting EIVS at 405.549.9070

Dr. Bukenhofer found this humerus....
Okay dad jokes aside, Tulsa dates are up! May 28-29 and June 25-26 at Mobile Horse Doc ( ) in Mounds.

The humerus is an important bone for attachment and forelimb locomotion. The red circle is around the deltoid tuberosity- a bony prominence which is the attachment point for several muscles, the deltoids being the biggest. Dr. Buk is touching the Teres tuberosity (teal circle), which is on the inside/medial aspect of the bone, and is the attachment point for the teres and latissimus dorsi muscles, among others. These muscles stabilize the shoulder joint and provide movement of the forelimb.
Restrictions in these muscles can cause gait abnormalities and shortened stride. Latissimus issues can lead to gluteal issues via the fascial connections.

Cervical spine comparison time!!
Talk about a difference!
Here are photos of a horse C4 in the top, and human cervical vertebrae in the bottom. The difference in our bodies is pretty amazing. In humans, our cervical spine serves more of a pillar function to support our head and allow us to have rotational mobility.
The equine cervical spine is more like a chain that allows for flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral bending...all while protecting the spinal cord and surrounding structures!!
This post is a little taste of the final bone fact reel, featuring C6, C7, and T1!! Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion, dropping soon.

Dr. Buk is grateful for the ability to take photos of the human spine model at their chiropractor's office.

Alright y'all!! It's time for bone fact Friday!
Here is the next group of cervical vertebrae: C3, C4, & C5. These bones are similar in size and shape, allow lateral bending motion in the neck, and provide areas of attachment for muscles.
The most common issues seen in this region are degenerative joint changes such as arthritis, or soft tissue restrictions. These issues most often manifest as a resistance to bending the neck, or decreases in range of motion.

With integrative veterinary therapies such as acupuncture, laser treatments, spinal manipulation, and rehabilitation exercises, Dr. Bukenhofer can help your horse feel their best.

What a Blast!
Dr. Bukenhofer got invited to host a wetlab about integrative therapies for equine practice at Oklahoma State University. There was a great turnout of veterinary students who were there to learn more! Dr. Buk showed how different integrative techniques can be used in everyday practice to aid in lameness exams, how stance can relate to restrictions and pain, and gave the students a little taste of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine!

Equine Integrative Veterinary Services is thankful for this opportunity to spread the integrative love! We look forward to seeing these future veterinarians continue to do amazing work!!

It's bone time!
Your horse's cervical spine (neck) is made of 7 vertebrae. This reel gives you a glimpse of C1 and C2, also known as the Atlas and the Axis. These bones connect the skull and neck, and provide important areas of movement for the head. This is also an important area to have checked out on a regular basis as it can be prone to restrictions.
If you see Dr. Bukenhofer in the wild, ask to see the bones!!!
