Poppy. Our sweet Poppy. Where do we even begin? 💔🐾
In May 2024, a broken little soul appeared on the euthanasia list at our local shelter. Her face said it all—defeat, pain, exhaustion. Poppy had been through hell:
💔 Broken ribs
💔 Fractured vertebrae & pelvis
💔 Crushed eye socket
💔 Skull fractures
💔 Broken teeth
💔 Starved to the point of emaciation
And still… she wagged her tail. 🐶💖
She was only 2 years old.
All her injuries were in different stages of healing—likely the result of being used as a bait dog. Her eyes had given up. Her body had given up. But we didn’t. 🙅♀️🙅♂️
We got her into surgery and began the long road to healing. When no one stepped up to foster, she went to our amazing rescue partner Shannon Farmz Animal Rescue Foundation where she could run and play. 🏡🐕
Then—another blow: Poppy was diagnosed with glaucoma. 😢 Her eye pressure was monitored weekly, and thankfully, the drops helped. But it was yet another mountain to climb.
She started showing behavioral issues at the boarding facility—understandable, after all she’d been through. Our dedicated volunteer, Cheryl Kroutil knew Poppy needed a second chance and sent her to KrisHelpsDogs in February 2025 for training. 🧠🐾
She was learning. Growing. Becoming the girl we always knew she was. But we wondered…
Would anyone ever notice her?
Someone did. ❤️
A kind-hearted woman in Virginia saw Poppy’s story and knew in her heart—this was her dog. 🥹 But then another obstacle: her landlord sold the property. She refused to move anywhere Poppy wouldn’t be welcome. 🏘️❌🐕
She searched for months… and finally, she found a place where Poppy would be cherished. 🙌💕
So if you’ve read this far, you probably know what we’re here to shout:
🎉 WELCOME HOME, POPPY! 🏡🐾
Poppy was transported by the same volunteer who never gave up on her. She got a little vacation on the way—(videos In comments)
🛏️ Her first hotel stay
🌊 Her first time at Lake Michigan
👩❤️👩 Her first moments with her forever mom
This… THIS is what we dream about when we save them.
Some dogs leave paw prints on your heart forever.
That was Poppy. 🐾💗
