You win some. You lose some. That’s barrel racing.

Not every run ends with a check. Not every season goes the way you planned. But every mile hauled, every early morning, every lesson learned, and every setback overcome is shaping you into the rider you’re becoming.

Don’t let one run define your confidence. Stay humble in the wins and faithful through the losses. Keep showing up, keep putting in the work, and trust that God’s timing is better than your own.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

The next run is always an opportunity. Keep your eyes forward and your faith strong. 🤍🏇🙏

Good Saturday Morning! ☀️

One of the biggest misconceptions in barrel racing is that speed creates speed. The truth is, control creates speed.

A horse that can rate, stay balanced, move its shoulders, engage its hind end, and stay connected between your hands and legs will always have more potential than one that’s simply running hard.

When we slow down, we’re not taking a step backward. We’re teaching understanding. We’re building confidence. We’re creating muscle memory that will hold together when the pace increases.

The fastest runs are often the result of hundreds of slow, intentional repetitions done correctly. Don’t be afraid to walk it. Don’t be afraid to trot it. Don’t be afraid to spend another day on the basics.

Because smooth is fast, and the horses that learn to do it right slowly are usually the ones that get to do it fast later. 🐴🔥

I hear a lot of people talk about getting nervous before they run. Truthfully, I think nerves come when we forget how blessed we already are to even be there.

Before a run, I try to slow my mind down and pray. I thank God for everything that got me to that moment the horses, the ability to ride, the truck and trailer that got me there, the support system around me, and the opportunity to chase a dream in the first place.

When you start focusing on gratitude instead of fear, it changes everything. Confidence doesn’t come from knowing you’ll win every time… it comes from knowing you’ll be okay either way.

At the end of the day, there’s always another run, another exhibition, another chance to keep learning and getting better.

Maverick 🦄

This big guy came in about a month ago, and honestly the biggest thing we’ve focused on is slowing his mind down. Naturally, he wants to be extremely forward, and while everyone loves a fast horse, fast too early isn’t always a good thing. A horse that’s constantly rushing makes it a lot harder for them to truly learn and understand their job.

Could we’ve already put him on barrels? Sure. But taking the time to slow him down, get him soft, balanced, and understanding how to use himself correctly will benefit him so much more down the road.

Getting one broke the right way before giving them a job sets them up for a much brighter future. The foundation matters. Speed is easy to add later… fixing holes from being rushed usually isn’t.

Horse show etiquette says a lot about you long before your run ever does.

Pick up your trash.
Don’t block alleyways.
Respect warm up space.

Cheer for people even when you’re competing against them. Be kind to the help, the office staff, gate crew, tractor drivers, and the kids watching from the fence dreaming about being there one day.

A good horseman isn’t just judged by how fast they run. They’re judged by how they carry themselves when things are stressful, competitive, and exhausting. The horse world is smaller than people think. Your reputation will travel faster than your horse ever will.

Win with humility.
Lose with grace.
Help others when you can.
And leave every show grounds better than you found it.

That’s real horsemanship.

When people start moving like you, talking like you, or building something inspired by what you’re doing… that’s not an insult. It usually means you’re doing something worth noticing.

There’s room for everybody to win. I love seeing people succeed, grow, and chase their goals too. Keep leading by example and let the work speak for itself.
