🐾 Dog Spotlight Week – Day 3 🐾
✨ Meet Lucy Gray ✨

Lucy Gray is a gentle, soft-hearted girl who came to us as a stray. While we don’t know much about her past, we do know that she’s been quietly stealing hearts since the day she arrived.

At around 3 years old, Lucy Gray is calm, affectionate, and easy to love. She can be a bit reserved at first, but once she feels safe, her sweet personality truly shines. She enjoys gentle affection, calm companionship, and taking things at her own pace.

Lucy has been picking up on basic commands and seems eager to keep learning…especially when treats are involved! 🍪
She does well with other dogs, particularly with respectful introductions, and would likely enjoy a canine companion who matches her calm energy.
Lucy does well at keeping her kennel clean so we do believe she has had some crate training/house training.

🐾 Dog Spotlight Week – Day 4 🐾
✨ Meet Vinnie ✨

Vinnie came to us as a stray and was never claimed, but that just means he’s now fully ready for a fresh start. He’s neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and officially on the lookout for a home of his very own.

It didn’t take long for staff to notice that Vinnie is a focused, driven, and highly motivated guy. 🎾 He loves fetch and truly thrives when he has a job to do. Vinnie enjoys working alongside his people and using both his body and brain, he’s happiest when he’s engaged and learning.

Because of his enthusiasm and work ethic, Vinnie would do best in an active home that can provide purposeful outlets for his energy. Activities like agility, herding, structured training, or other dog sports would be an excellent fit for him.

If you’re looking for a smart, energetic companion who’s ready to be your teammate, Vinnie might be the perfect match.

🐾 Dog Spotlight Week 🐾
All week long, we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing dogs—one special pup each day!
To kick things off, meet Sam 🖤

Sam is a sweet, gentle shepherd who has quickly won over everyone at the shelter with his loving personality and excellent manners. He came to us after being surrendered due to a medical condition called pannus, which affects the eyes and can lead to vision loss over time. Because of his condition living with another dog became harder for Sam.

Because of changes to his vision, fast or unpredictable movement can sometimes make Sam uncomfortable, but in a calm, predictable environment, he truly shines. Right now, Sam is still seeing fairly well and enjoying his daily routines, affection from his favorite humans, and plenty of downtime.
🎾 And fetch? Sam loves it…this guy would give Air Bud a run for his money!

Pannus can be managed with medicated eye drops given 1–3 times daily for life, which help slow progression and keep him comfortable. Sam will do best in a quieter home with patient, understanding people who are willing to support him as his vision changes with age. 🐶🖤

Sam is neutered and 4 years old.

🐾 We’re Hiring! Part-Time Kennel Assistant 🐾

Do you love animals and want to make a hands-on difference every day? We’re looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Part-Time Kennel Assistant to join our shelter team!

📍 Location: 10501 Cty Hwy S South
💲 Pay: $13.00/hour
📅 Schedule: Must be available for weekends and holidays
➡️ This is a regular part-time, non-seasonal position. A fixed weekend day is required (exact days/hours TBD).

What you’ll do:
🐶 Provide daily care for shelter animals, including cleaning, feeding, enrichment, and safe handling
🧼 Clean and disinfect animal enclosures and maintain organized, sanitary work areas
📝 Observe animal health and behavior and document daily care in shelter software
🧺 Assist with laundry, dishes, and deep cleaning
🤝 Communicate with shelter staff across departments to support animal well-being
💛 Provide compassionate interaction to support animals’ physical and mental health

What we’re looking for:
✔️ High school diploma or equivalent (animal care experience preferred)
✔️ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work
✔️ Comfortable working around noise, odors, and animal waste
✔️ Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills
✔️ Willingness to work with animals of all sizes, species, and temperaments
✔️ A genuine commitment to animal welfare

Thank you AMR Electric!
We are still in shock over the amount that was raised for our shelter!

This holiday season, AMR Electric is grateful for our amazing community! Thanks to your support and the support of Northwestern Bank, our recent fundraiser for Chippewa Humane raised over $45,000 to provide a warmer, safer space for the animals in their care. A huge THANK YOU to SandBar and Grill for hosting their 8th Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Bingo for us! We are overwhelmed with the incredible support and thank you to everyone who attended. Because of you, $3,847 was raised, along with an amazing donation of dog and cat food and supplies.

Because of you, our incredible community of donors, supporters, and advocates, our matching gift campaign for door and window replacements was a tremendous success. With the generous support of our matching gift sponsors, Northwestern Bank and AMR Electric, you didn’t just meet the match… you exceeded it!

While we are still finalizing the last gifts that came in yesterday, we are thrilled to share that you helped raise over $45,000 to make our shelter safer, warmer, and more secure for the animals in our care.

We are truly overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of support. This result went far beyond our expectations and is a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together for animals in need. Like many shelters in our area, we are almost always at capacity, and it is your generosity that allows us to continue showing up for every animal who needs us.

PSA: Petfinder Update

Petfinder recently rolled out a major site update, and unfortunately it has caused several widespread issues. Some adoptable pets are appearing under agencies that have never had them in their care, pets that were already adopted are reappearing, and some newly listed animals are not showing up at all.

We use Petfinder in addition to Adopt-a-Pet and our shelter management software, which also lists available pets directly on our website. At this time, we ask for your patience as Petfinder works to resolve these issues.
