Happy ! 📚

It's this week, and today is a particularly special day that is dedicated to honoring for the hard work that they do and the lasting contributions that they make to our lives. ❤️

It's no secret that the profession has become harder than ever before. Ever-increasing responsibilities and demands; pay that is not commensurate with the expertise required and hours worked; and a shameful lack of respect from many students and their parents weigh heavily on our teachers today. The work that teachers do is absolutely essential to our society, and teachers deserve to be recognized, appreciated, respected, and valued. 🫶

Please take some time today, and this week, to honor teachers for their time and dedication to our children. Here are some ideas from National Day Calendar (and from a former teacher who is now on our Social Media Team!) for inspiration:

✏️ Refill classroom supplies. Teachers at all grade levels (even high school!) often have to pay out of pocket for the supplies that their students need. Help out a who you know—or one at one of your local schools—by donating classroom supplies like pencils, pens, and notebook paper.

📝 Write a thank you note for your child's favorite teacher—or your own favorite teacher! Giving a teacher a genuine expression of gratitude is a great way to make sure that they can cry some happy tears for a change, and you wouldn't believe how much of an impact it truly makes. (Pro tip: Handwrite the note and send it in with your child, or ask the front office to place it in the teacher's mailbox. Sadly, teachers are basically conditioned to expect a crisis when they receive an email from a parent.)

✋ Volunteer at your child's school. Teachers at all grade levels (even high school!) can use help with all kinds of things, like making copies, setting up for lessons, and cleaning their classrooms. And if you want to absolutely make a teacher's year? Volunteer to watch their class for a few minutes so they can run to the restroom!

💬 Share a story about a teacher who had a meaningful impact on your life.

🗯 Speak out when you see others mistreating teachers.

❤️ Perform an act of kindness for a teacher in your life to let them know that you see them and that you care. Bring them their favorite coffee or snack, offer to run an errand—it's the little things that can often make the biggest difference!

Good to know

Did you know? Dogs must be 24 months or older for OFA Hip and Elbow certification, and 12 months or older for Cardiac, Patellas, and Thyroid certification. There is no age minimum for eye certification, nor for DNA, since DNA does not change as the dog ages.

The OFA also does Preliminary evaluations on hips and elbows before 24 months of age. However, they will need to be re-evaluated again for a final certification once the dog reaches 24 months.

Individual breeds may have different minimum age requirements for their CHIC program, which is determined by their parent club.
