Ken was a major force in teaching others about tree artistry at Kentfield Gardens. He gave countless workshops there and planted many trees. If we can help with the parade, please let us know!!! We love and miss him.
The Durham Parade and Picnic Committee is very pleased to announce the 2023 Honorary Parade Marshal:
Ken Hodge
A little about Ken:
Ken moved to Durham in 1989 with his wife Shelly. In the early 1990’s Ken and Shelly ran a gardening class through Durham 4-H while also being very involved with the Durham Dolphins Swim Team.
Ken coached Durham Little League for seven years and served as “Player Agent” for two years. He also coached DRPD soccer as all four of his children grew up. He was the President of the Durham Sports Boosters from 2009-2011.
Ken is well known in the community for his focus and passion for photography. He has photographed most of the sporting events happening at Durham High including track, cross country, soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, softball, wrestling and swimming. He captured many special events such as Homecoming, Senior Cut Day, Grandparent’s Day, Block D, Durham Almond Blossom Run, Durham Parade and Girls on the Run.
Ken loved to be a volunteer grandparent for Durham’s Grandparent’s Day.
As owner of Hodge’s Nursery, Ken donated trees to the Midway Park and Durham Park. He also donated 10 Zelkova trees to the Patrick Ranch as part of his son David’s senior project.
Ken and Shelly were heavily involved with FFA. They cleaned up the FFA/Ag yard, donated and planted a fruit orchard. Ken served on the Agricultural Advisory Board, School Site Councils and was intermittently president of the elementary and intermediate schools while his children were in those grades. In 2014 he was awarded Durham Library Honors.
Please join us in honoring Ken as this year’s Honorary Parade Marshal.
