It's coming- FOXTAIL Season 🫨
For the newbie: What are foxtails?
They are the seed heads of a wild barley plant and are known to fall apart when dry and cause serious pain and infection to our pets. And unless your lawn is pristine, they can pop up everywhere.
Symptoms:
- blister-like bumps between or under toes.
- licking intently at parts of feet
- shaking head
- intense sneezing
- eyes glued shut / eye pain and swelling
- unexplained abscesses
- we often find them in ears without symptoms during routine exams
Prevention:
- avoid areas with foxtails - hard to do
- check between toes, armpits, near ears during and after walks
- have hair around feet shaved short (aka poodle cut)
- OUTFOX FIELD GUARDS IN STOCK at RIVERWOOD (I wonder if it could help slow down rattlesnake bites, although not advertised for this) or at Outfoxfordogs.com
