Highly adaptable, nonnative snakes pose an unacceptable risk as invaders. Through escape or release, these "pet" snakes invade natural habitats where they pose a threat to endangered and threatened species like coqui llaneros and crested toads.

Mexican Beaded Lizard (Heloderma horridum). A species of venomous lizard found principally in Mexico and southern Guatemala. This is one of a few species of lizards known to have evolved an overt venom delivery system. Larger, and duller in coloration then our Gila Monster, this lizard was awesome to photograph! Thanks to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from USARK - United States Association of Reptile Keepers! The Viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara) is the only land reptile native to Ireland (5 sea turtle species appear). It has the northernmost range of any reptile, extending into the Arctic Circle. Males may reach 5" and females 7" in length. Photo © lauriecampbell.com
