We have dogs on dogs that need foster right now. Old timers, puppies, smalls, nervous kids, confident kids -- there's literally someone here for everyone.

Puppies: McNugget, McGriddle, and McFlurry -- Hamburglar's sisters -- are all ready to split up the happy meal and start building confidence without one another. They're tiny ladies at only about 4lbs a piece.

Also: Gin and Tonic, two shepherd mix puppies that need a safe place to land after just recently arriving from a high kill shelter.

Nervous kids: Maisie, Frankenweenie, and Dolly all have varying degrees of shyness that they need to overcome, so they're looking for an experienced foster to help them blossom.

Senior dogs more your style? Timber is an older gentleman who finally got medical clearance and is ready to get more one on one attention in his own foster home while he awaits his forever family.

And lastly, miss Mally the one-eyed pug needs to switch to a foster home without other dogs because she has decided that while she is dog friendly in general, she much prefers to be a solo lady in the home.

We've had a busy October with lots of cute new faces joining us! A mix of shelter babies needing a safe haven to escape the potential of a euthanasia list, owner surrenders, and medical cases needing extra love and dog dollars to help them heal and get ready for their forever families to find them.

Heading into the last leg of 2026, what we need the most are donations and fosters! Help us help them by giving them a place to crash or helping us cover their extensive medical care. Stick around for our Foster Needed and Medical Monday post this coming week where we'll introduce you to our most deserving and medically needy pups!

The Spice Girls are ready for your attention!

Our girls are officially accepting applications! We are about 6 and a half weeks old and though we won’t be ready to go to our forever homes for at least another 2 weeks we would love to start finding our person/family!

As usual we have a litter posting on our website where you can apply to be considered for one of these precious girls. We would love to help you find that perfect match for you. Our personalities are starting to shine and so we ask that you be open to finding the match that fits you best by learning more about you.

We have a couple of our biggest fundraisers of the year coming up in the next few months and what we need help with the most from our community is assistance finding business owners and local partners who would be willing to donate to our raffle and prize baskets.

Giving Tuesday: December 3rd. We will be building a team of community members who are passionate about our mission and willing to help us fundraise for our cause. This year our goal is bigger than ever and we need maximum support to reach our goal and finally be able to purchase a rescue van to help us maximize our lifesaving capacity in 2027. We’d like to put together a gift basket for the fundraising team that raises the most money for CRA as an incentive. Gift certificates, cool experiences, anything like that would help us create some commotion and get people enthusiastic about helping us raise the money we need.

Anniversary Gala: January 30th. Bigger and better than ever to celebrate our 3rd year of rescue work — we’re looking for raffle items for an online/in-person raffle. No item is too big or too small.

Happy birthday to the heart and soul of Chicago Rescue Authority. Megan is my co-founder, she’s our foster director, she’s designs all of our merch, she makes 99.7% of our graphics, she proof reads all my words (except this one), she teaches me new things every single day, and most importantly, she embodies everything animal welfare is supposed to be about.
Meeting her was truly fate because getting to build a rescue with your best friend is something I never could have imagined. Those zoom calls that turned a reality as I moved 18 hours away to do rescue by your side is something that changed my life. You change people lives Megan. You changed dog’s lives. You are indescribable but if you’ve met Megan, you know exactly what I mean.

CRA genuinely would not function without her, and I am so incredibly thankful that the dogs in our care get to have her in their corner. Megan has at least 15 years of both veterinary medicine and involvement in animal rescue that help us every day. Last year I shared that she’s fostered about 300 dogs. Well, with a soft spot for moms and their litters, medical cases, and, of course, the ones who need her most, Megan has now fostered 450 dogs in her 10 years of consistently fostering. 450 lives, isn’t that inspiring?

CRA was a dream that we didn’t think could ever happen and suddenly it’s so overwhelming to see the family we have created whether it’s our fosters, volunteers, adopters, donors, friends and more.
For her birthday, we are still sharing her fundraiser for our Hamburglar boy because though we’ve almost reached the goal we know he has a ton of appointments, medication, and more to help him get everything he needs these upcoming months. As always we will continue to be transparent and share that as it comes. We also have a ton of other medical cases currently that we can’t wait to share with you.

🚨FOSTERS URGENTLY NEEDED🚨

In the past two months we have seen a 250% increase in the number of pets that owners are asking to surrender to rescue.

That is a huge number. Sometimes we're seeing 4-5 separate requests PER DAY. This time last year we would maybe have 1 per week. From what we're hearing, many rescues are dealing with much the same issue. As a foster-based rescue, we cannot continue to say yes to these dogs unless we find fosters willing to help us continue to push this mission forward.

So what does fostering entail? I guarantee it's much less than you think.

1. Be local to the Chicagoland area and willing to drive to one of our three vets (Barrington, Naperville, Irving Park) (BONUS if you know a vet in the South or SW suburbs that will match our rescue pricing from our other vets for spay/neuter services so we can expand our radius even farther!)

2. If you have a dog/cat in your home already they must already be spayed/neutered and up to date on core Chicago vaccines (distemper, lepto, rabies, bordetella).

3. Be willing to keep a dog safe and loved and communicate with our team about how they're settling in and what their personality looks like so that we can find them the best home possible.

Thats it. You don't need to buy food, pay for vetting, search for an adopter yourself, have a yard, live in a single family home, have years of experience caring for animals, etc. We have a super accessible orientation we busted our butts making so that all the information and tools you need are in one place and for any other questions, you'll have a direct line to our team for 24/7 support.

Transportation. Love. Communication. That's all we're looking for here.

As animal rescuers, some of the most frustrating sentences we hear start with "I wish I could foster, but..."

The reality is, there are very few legitimate reasons for not being able to foster that are not based around self-limiting factors.

Take a moment and read through and leave some love for the featured foster families throughout to let them know how appreciated their hard work is.

If you've ever used one of these excuses to sidestep a conversation about fostering, please take a moment to truly reflect on what REALLY is stopping you. Ask us some questions about the foster process. Heck, ask our FOSTERS if thats more helpful!

Month after month we are faced with the inevitable problem of too many dogs and not enough fosters, leaving us having to make heartbreaking decisions about what dogs we can save, and what dogs we cannot save. YOU can be the bridge that allows us to say yes to more dogs. You can be 100% of the difference between a dog starving on the street, dying in a shelter, or not getting the lifesaving care it needs and then getting to live a full, happy life with an adopter. YOU have that power. If your reason for not giving fostering a chance is because you will be too sad, or it will be too hard to say goodbye, or anything like that -- please take a moment to consider whether your effort to protect your own heart from experiencing temporary sadness is more important than saving a living being from, in many cases, what amounts to an entire lifetime of sadness.
