Hot temps are coming our way! Our friends at Chicago Cat Rescue shared some good tips to help keep our furry family members safe and cool.
Chicago is expected to get a severe heatwave over the next few days. High temperatures can be dangerous for our furry family members (and outdoor friends).
Here are some ways to help your cats (and all pets!) stay safe:
* ๐ง Water, Water, Water! Provide multiple bowls of fresh, cool water. Add ice cubes to encourage drinking!
* โ๏ธ Find the Shade: Ensure plenty of shaded spots indoors. Close blinds, use fans, or let them chill on cool tile floors.
* ๐พ Cooling Aids: Pet cooling mats or damp (not soaking!) towels can offer relief.
* ๐ NEVER Leave Pets in a Car! Freeze water bottles, place them near fans or wrap them in a towel, and place them near your pet's bed or favorite cozy napping spot.
* ๐จ Watch for Heatstroke: Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy? Contact your vet IMMEDIATELY.
*๐ช Unscreened windows are hazardous to pets, who could jump or fall from a window. Keep all unscreened windows and doors closed. It only takes a few inches for cats to squeeze out!
โค๏ธ Don't Forget Our Outdoor Friends!
Please put out bowls of fresh water in shaded areas for street cats and other critters. Even a shallow dish with rocks helps small wildlife stay hydrated.
