How to Properly Give Multivitamins to Your Dog: A Veterinarian’s Guidance
As a veterinarian, one of the most common questions I receive from dog owners is: “Does my dog really need multivitamins?”
The answer depends on your dog’s age, diet, health status, and lifestyle. While many commercial dog foods are formulated to meet basic nutritional standards, certain dogs may benefit from additional supplementation.
When Multivitamins May Be Beneficial
Multivitamins can be helpful for:
-Senior dogs with decreased nutrient absorption
-Dogs with selective appetites or inconsistent diets
-Active or working dogs with higher metabolic demands
-Dogs recovering from illness
-Pets on homemade or limited-ingredient diets
However, supplementation should support — not replace — a balanced diet.
