Good Easter Sunday from the Briarwood!
I hope and pray that this day finds you blessed and confident in your hope in glory.
Spring is slowing arriving here in Cheyenne… I think we’re up to 5th winter and maybe 3rd Spring, but it changes so very fast the I can’t really keep up anymore. March has come and gone in like a Lamb but out like a lion. We’ve had winds, snow and cold only to be followed by temps in the 70’s and then to cycle back again. Spring is a volatile month here; Mother Nature is fickle in her ways and Old Man Winter is ever reluctant to release his grip on us and allow her to usher in Spring with all of its glory.
While the onset of Spring and the resting of winter is uncertain here, there is something very certain. Easter comes whether in 3rd Spring or 5th Winter and whether we’ve had snow on Good Friday followed by beautiful weather for our Resurrection Sunday morning, Spring will always mean Easter, and Easter will always represent the rebirth of my Savior.
The death of Jesus was as certain as the coming of Winter with it’s cold and relentless wind. Satan rejoiced and thought he had won. In like the lamb, he was slain for the sins of the world so that we could have access to a Holy God. The price of sin was placed on Him who knew no sin, so that my sin was paid for. And can it be that I should gain an interest in my Savior’s love…
3 days in the tomb and then it happened. The stone was rolled away, and he rose. Winter’s grip broken and Spring has come. The world reborn, grass greening up, trees budding out and the first color popping up out of the ground. Daffodils, Hyacinth, Tulips, and Crocus all shout out of rebirth and new life. Spring has sprung and we have available to us the hope of new life in Him. Death and hell defeated once and for all, the price paid in full. It was surely finished.
With Jesus there is no 5th winter or 3rd spring. His death, burial and resurrection were a one and done. Over 500 people saw him alive again. They easily could have refuted the Gospel accounts, but the Bible still speaks truth of the events of that Holy Week 2000 years ago.
Hope springs eternal especially when your hope is in Jesus.
March has come like the lamb but went out like the lion. So too my savior. He came as the lamb of the world, offered up as a sacrifice for many, but he’s coming back as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
In the book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Mr. Tumnus sums him up perfectly… he describes Alsan as not a tame lion. Lucy asks is he safe to which Mr. Beaver answers “of course he isn’t safe but he’s good… The lion of the tribe of Judah is not safe to any who don’t know him, but He is good. So very good that he emptied himself of divinity, humbled himself and took on the form of a servant, so that he could make a way back to the father for a world that didn’t recognize him or want any part of him.
We are as fickle as mother nature… Wanting him to fit into our mold instead of us fitting into him. We hold on to dead things hoping, praying that they can bring life and miss out on the new life that he has for us found only in the resurrected king.
Winter and Spring will continue to fight it out here until the start of Summer… but there is a time for everything under heaven. A time to be born and die, a time to plant and reap, a time to mourn and a time to dance and a time of choosing new life in the only one who can give new life to dead things. I pray that on this resurrection Sunday that you will know his resurrection in your heart today.
Happy Easter from the Briarwood,
Lisa
