This one hurts really bad… I can’t even get a grip today because this hurts so bad. Gidget, you sweet little timid girl… you did not deserve any of this pain, this suffering. I am angry for you Gidget, I really am. You gave your everything to your four little digits… you are the definition of a perfect mom because even when you were feeling crappy you never wanted to show it and you continued to care for your babies. Gidget passed away this morning after making an extremely hard decision early this morning. She was given a 50/50 chance for survival if exploratory surgery was pursued but nothing is 100%, nothing is fool proof. She made it through surgery after identifying that she had a massive hole in her small intestines which was causing the fluid leak into her abdominal cavity. At first we thought it was a pyometra that ruptured but the exploratory gave us a new look. Her bowel was resected and the damage was removed but unfortunately a couple hours later her body was quitting on her. I have never made such a hard life or death decision, without the surgery she would have died… with the surgery she may die. A decision to make with a life hanging in your hands is no fun, it is seriously gut wrenching especially when financials play a part. I was going to make whatever she needed happen but I still feel so terrible she hid this pain for so long and continued to care for her kittens. The doctor and I are kind of at a loss for what caused this… old injury that she was masking for the past 12 days we’ve had her? Was it a tumor that ruptured? I don’t think we will ever know unfortunately but I do know that she is at peace and I think she knew her kittens were going to be in good hands. I am going to continue to fight like hell and advocate for kitties like Gidget because this can all be prevented by one simple simple thing… Spay & Neuter. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of neglect and negligence, get your pets fixed… period. You would be saving a lot of heartache by doing so. I want to thank you all for stepping up when we needed you most, I am so sorry it was not the outcome we all wanted but her bills unfortunately still need to be paid for. I am being told that I will have a final invoice by end of day today. I also want to thank VRC once again for going above and beyond, to help us make everything happen, for being supportive and encouraging, for listening to my concerns, for weighing her options and for ultimately trying to give her a chance. Thank you to the surgeon who was on call & came in at 3 AM in the morning to perform her surgery and thank you to the nurses for prepping and monitoring her post-op. I lastly want to thank Momma Steph who is always there when we need her most, she was by Gidget & my side the entire night. Rest easy Gidget and say hello to all of the amazing kitties we tried to save over the years. Keep cheering us on from up above because we won’t be stopping anytime soon to advocate for the kitties like you🌈🐾
