With each visit you can expect the highest level of care and attention! We provide one-on-one specialized play time for your pet(s) to be sure they are receiving exercise,

attention and affection (and any needed medications) while you are away. We will also provide you text updates at each visit. Not only does this help you to have peace of mind, but enables us to work together in case there is something we may need to change or adjust while your pet is under our care. Additionally, we will be sure that your mail is brought inside and all papers removed from the driveway. We will water your plants and provide other general tasks. A Tribute to our Captain

The Black Dog Mourns the
Passing of Its Founder, Captain Robert Douglas Sr.

Vineyard Haven, MA: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of the legendary Schooner Captain Robert Douglas Sr, former USAF fighter pilot, founder of The Black Dog, father and grandfather, visionary sailor, and beloved member of our community. Captain Douglas passed away peacefully at his farm, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and loyal dogs in the early morning hours.

Captain Douglas was more than the founder of The Black Dog—he was the soul of our brand and the heart of a community he helped shape. His legacy lives on in every sail hoisted aboard the Shenandoah and Alabama and in cherished boats everywhere, in the spirit of independence and adventure that defines our company, and in the lives of those he inspired through his passion for the sea and for life

There is a profound hole left in our world with his passing; one felt deeply by all of us at The Black Dog and throughout the Vineyard and sailing communities.

At this time, the Douglas family kindly asks for peace and privacy as they navigate this difficult time and will make announcements at a later date.
