Frenchies are very popular, however, the breed in general is plagued with terrible back issues. Bush Veterinary Neurology Service has shared a study on those dogs that have been identified as needing back surgery.
While this may ultimately be the necessary fix, many dogs can be treated with less invasive modalities. There is significant data showing that acupuncture and herbals have proven successful in many cases, making the surgical option unnecessary!! We have seen miraculous results here at Cooke Vet of combining eastern and western medicines and modalities to create amazing healing outcomes. We have seen paralyzed dogs walk again when their owners have been told nothing more could be done!! At The Place for Healing, we believe in leveraging all options to provide our patients with the best opportunities for living their best lives. We donāt rule out surgery by any means, but we make sure there arenāt other less invasive options first!!
š§ Advancing Neurology Care for French Bulldogs at BVNS ā Short Pump
Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) in French Bulldogs often involves epidural hemorrhage, which can complicate recovery and increase the risk of paralysis. At BVNS, our board-certified neurologists are partnering with Ethos Discovery on a clinical trial evaluating whether a low-risk medication, Aminocaproic Acid (ACA), can reduce surgical bleeding and improve neurologic outcomes.
This study reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing veterinary neurology through evidence-based medicine and compassionate care.
