10/14 Update Adoption Pending

Tiny 16lb abused young beagle, named New Girl, is looking for a new life after a difficult beginning located in Chesapeake, VA (adoption area is within 1.5 hours of 23322).

New Girl is an adorable little beagle looking for a patient family willing to help her overcome her fears after a history of abuse. She is discovering the happier things in life like rolling in the grass, stuffed toys, and chew toys. This pint sized pup is looking for a home with another dog that is out going and playful, a fenced in yard, and no children that might scare her. She is really a fantastic girl hoping someone will take her on and show her how great life and people can be.

Update: 8/11 Adopted

Barney an Overweight Beagle/Basset Hound Mix is a cuddly teddy bear looking for a new life as a pampered pet in Chesapeake, VA (adoption area is within 1.5 hours of 23322).

Barney is a 6 year old short and stocky guy and is currently 58lbs, but his ideal weight would be around 45lbs. Barney is a super sweet teddy bear of a dog. He loves belly rubs, lying in the sun, every person he meets, and of course food! Barney has previously lived in a home with cats and does well with other dogs and kids.

Barney is being evaluated for hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormones) which can cause his weight gain and the ear infections and dry skin he has been experiencing. Treatment is a very inexpensive medication (Thyroxine-L) that is less than $7 a month on Chewy.com. He is already neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, has a recent blood/urine/fecal panel, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and is heartworm negative.

You can read his full Bio here: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/barney-2025-77427674/va/chesapeake/beagles-to-the-rescue-va467/

BTTR offers a trail period to all of our adoptions to make sure we are the right fit! If you are interested in learning more about Barney give us a call at 757-447-7773 or check out our website at

Rocky Update!

6/6/25 Update Rocky had his 2 month follow up Vet visit and is making a great recovery, his foster has decided to adopt him!

Rocky is 1 month out from his CCL repair surgery (like a doggy ACL) on both knees and is doing amazing! He is doing some physical therapy and short slow leash walks to rebuild muscle. Rocky enjoys stroller rides, Kong toys, and puzzle bowls for mental stimulation. Best of all thanks to our amazing Hampton Roads community and friends at HRVA Homes- powered by Keller Williams Realty we have fully funded all his veterinary care!!! We have a potential foster/ adopter for him so we will keep you posted on how things go. Thank you all agin for all the support in helping get Rocky up and moving again.

Our Story

We are Beagles to the Rescue a non-profit animal rescue located in Chesapeake, VA. Our beagles come from shelters, hunt clubs, stray pickups, and families across south eastern Virginia and north eastern North Carolina. We are a no-kill organization placing dogs as indoor pets in a home that matches them perfectly.

We are a 100% volunteer run organization and we are funded solely by donations. We are not a traditional brick and mortar shelter, our dogs live in foster homes or at an open boarding kennel (think giant dog park). The kennel has acres of fenced in grassy fields for the dogs to run and play on while searching for a new home.

Visit our website www.beaglestotherescue.org to see all of our adoptable dogs, fill out a pet match form, or if you need help re-homing a dog. We are unable to return Facebook messages or reply to questions posted on our page or left in comments. To ensure a quick reply please contact us by phone or email.
