Rocky had his surgery on Monday! He spent the night at the vet and came back to his temporary foster home today. He is on pain medications and antibiotics so he is mostly just sleepy. Dr. Campbell at Edinburgh Animal Hospital was amazing, their whole staff took such great care of him.

Rocky had a complete meniscus tear and caudal cruciate ligament tear on the right side and a complete meniscus and partial caudal cruciate ligament tear on the left. They also removed a small eye growth that was rubbing on his eye and cyst that was leaking fluid from his back.

6/6/25 Update Rocky had his 2 month follow up Vet visit and is making a great recovery, his foster has decided to adopt him!

Rocky’s temporary foster mom will be having spinal surgery soon so we are still searching for a long term foster or adopter for him. He has a several months of recovery and rehab ahead of him. BTTR provides all of the supplies needed for his recovery and pays for all of his medical care.

Rocky is the sweetest and kindest boy. He is a fighter and will pull through this we just know it!

His total bill for surgery was $2659.73 (thank you again to Edinburgh Animal Hospital for their rescue discount). We have raised $1260 towards his care.

Can you help Rocky? We are looking for volunteers, donors, foster/adopter to help with his care. To learn more check out our website or give us a call at 757-447-7773

6/6/25 Update Rocky had his 2 month follow up Vet visit and is making a great recovery, his foster has decided to adopt him!

Rocky is having an existential crisis, his surgery is in 1 week and no one has stepped up to foster him. He has so many questions, he wonders if any one wants an old dog at all.

Look at that pitiful grey face, how could you turn him down? Rocky is a sweet 10 year old neutered male beagle weighing around 28lbs. He has two torn CCLs (like doggy ACLs) and is scheduled for double knee surgery on April 1st.

BTTR will pay for all of his medical care and provide food, beds, crates, supplements, x-pens, dog stroller, literally any supplies you will need!

You would need to provide Rocky a quiet place of strict crate rest and short leash walks (to potty) following his surgery on April 1st. Rocky will be on pain meds and sedatives so he will do a lot of sleeping but will need someone to keep an eye on him and help aid him in his recovery. His surgery is at Edinburgh Animal Hospital in Chesapeake, VA 23322 his foster home needs to be within an hour of this vet in case he has any complications and needs follow up care.

While his recovery time is estimated to be 8 weeks of full crate rest and 4 additional weeks of gradually increasing exercise to return to full beagle shenanigan levels. Even if you aren’t able to commit to the full 12 weeks we can still use your help!

Give us a call at 757-447-7773 and help keep Rocky from going further down the rabbit hole and asking the hard questions, Like why don’t beagles have thumbs? Or who ate all the treats?

3/28/25 Update: Rocky’s surgery is only a few days away on Tuesday 4/1! We have raised $1250 of the$4000 needed and we are still searching for a foster home for him. Rocky is in good spirits and the sweetest cuddle bug. Thank you again to all our donors! Can you be an angel for Rocky? Volunteer to foster him? Donate? Or help with his Physical Therapy?

6/6/25 Update Rocky had his 2 month follow up Vet visit and is making a great recovery, his foster has decided to adopt him!

Update (3/18/25) on Rocky our 10 year old neutered male beagle needing double ACL repair surgery.

Rocky is a fighter (much like Rocky Balboa) and despite his injury, he is still the sweetest beagle through and through. He will limp after a squirrel, get you to lift him on the bed for a snuggle, lay on the kitchen rug and watch you make dinner, typical beagle.

A bit more about Rocky: He loves harmonic music, is excellent at laundry, builds a beautiful blanket nest, loves to play with toys, and chew on chew bones, likes cats, dogs, kids, giraffes, and his green stuffed dinosaur.

His surgery is scheduled for 4/1/25 and we are really hoping to find a foster home or adopter for him before then. His current foster mom has spinal surgery coming up and is having a hard time lifting him with her injury.

So far we have raised $918 (across all platforms) towards his upcoming $4,000 worth of vet bills. Thank you to all our wonderful friends who donated all across Hampton Roads and beyond.

Could you be an angel for Rocky? Donate to his care? Foster or Adopt him? Or share his story?

He is a 10y old neutered male beagle who is looking for a very special new home. Rocky finds himself at BTTR through no fault of his own. This good boys previous owner left him with a friend while looking for a new place to live and was unable to reclaim him after 3 months. The friend turned to BTTR for help finding a new home for Rocky.

Rocky's wish list includes a home with a fenced in yard, and the opportunity to go on walks and play with other dogs a few times a week. He loves running zoomies around the yard, chasing another dog through the leaves, sniffing trees on a walk, and sleeping on a cozy bed. He is very cuddly and loves a good snuggle. He has done well in a home with other dogs, seems interested in cats but is respectful, and would be a good fit for kids and most older people.

After arriving at BTTR Rocky began limping and our vet determined that Rocky has 2 torn CCLs (like doggy ACLs). One was partially torn and partially healed prior to him arriving at BTTR and one tore with the increased activity at BTTR. We had two orthopedic consultations and determined that Rocky will be needing double knee surgery scheduled on April 1st 2025 at our vet in Chesapeake, VA 23322 (paid for by BTTR). He is currently on exercise restrictions, pain medications, and will need to be carried up and down any stairs from now until 8 weeks following his surgery. Once recovered we are expecting him to be able to make a full recovery and be able to return to 100% beagle shenanigans.

He is neutered, had a recent senior blood/urine panel, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, negative f***l test, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Other than the knee issues Rocky is an all around healthy guy.

BTTR offers a trial period to all of our adoptions to make sure it’s the right fit! As a Senior Rocky qualifies for a Special Reduced Senior Adoption Fee. Can you help Rocky out? If you are interested in fostering or adopting Rocky check out our website at the link below or call us at 757-447-7773 for more information. Foster/Adopters will need to be within 1 hour of Chesapeake, VA 23322 and willing to bring him to and from his vet visits

Meet Dixie

3/4 Update: Adopted

She is an 8-pound 5y old spayed female toy poodle surrendered to BTTR when her owner moved. While we generally only take in beagles and beagle mixes we made a special exception for this sweet girl.

Dixie would love a home where she can have a lot of cuddles, a fenced in yard would be a plus. She has lived in a home with other dogs and cats, but was previously attacked by a German Shepard and required stitches so she may prefer to be an only dog or with other smaller dogs. She does well riding in the car and loves to be held.

She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, has a recent negative f***l test, and is on flea/tick/and heartworm prevention.

BTTR offers a trial period to all of our adoptions to make sure it’s the right fit! If you are interested in adopting Dixie check out our website at the link below or call us at 757-447-7773 for more information.

Our Story

We are Beagles to the Rescue a non-profit animal rescue located in Chesapeake, VA. Our beagles come from shelters, hunt clubs, stray pickups, and families across south eastern Virginia and north eastern North Carolina. We are a no-kill organization placing dogs as indoor pets in a home that matches them perfectly.

We are a 100% volunteer run organization and we are funded solely by donations. We are not a traditional brick and mortar shelter, our dogs live in foster homes or at an open boarding kennel (think giant dog park). The kennel has acres of fenced in grassy fields for the dogs to run and play on while searching for a new home.

Visit our website www.beaglestotherescue.org to see all of our adoptable dogs, fill out a pet match form, or if you need help re-homing a dog.
