Today, we took in an additional 30 dogs, 28 from one residence…We are in desperate need of help from the community. If you are thinking about fostering, now is the time!🆘 🆘

There is not one single kennel available at CCAS😢As the only open admission facility serving the animals and people of Cecil County, we are in a true state of emergency.

Please consider adopting, fostering, or you can even help us by sharing this post!

Featured in this post are just a few of the fabulous pups available at CCAS. Please follow the link for more information on these dogs and all adoptable animals at our shelter!

https://www.ccgov.org/government/animal-services

Adoption fees are waived the rest of the summer!

Adopting a shelter pet is such a great way to bring a heartbeat to a home! Adoptions include Spay and Neuter, Microchipping, Age Appropriate Vaccinations, HeartWorm Test, Felv/FIV test and more!!

Our adoptions also include a free first veterinary exam at one of our local Veterinary Partners and any life saving care while at CCAS! If you are interested in adopting a new best friend, please send us a message or call us at 410-441-2040!

❤️Can’t adopt? Please consider fostering! Fostering is a great way to positively impact the life of a shelter animal if you aren’t able to adopt! Not only are you helping the animal you are fostering but, you are also opening up a kennel to help another pet in need! If you are interested in fostering a cat or dog, please join our Foster Page:

🐾♥️Who Rescued Who♥️🐾

Shelter dogs are often seen as “damaged” or “broken.” This is simply not true and so hard to hear. While not every dog is perfect, and some dogs needing a new home certainly have trauma to work through. However, that doesn't mean they're “bad” dogs and most could teach us a lesson or two. 😢

With that said, CCAS has placed four dogs that have gone on to provide a service to humans. One of our CCAS alumni is now a Police K-9. And most recently, Ducky joined this list of heroes serving our community.

Ducky was pulled from CCAS by our friends at House Of Hope Animal Rescue Inc., a rescue dedicated to helping dogs and in particular Retrievers!

Ducky is currently in training to fulfill his official role as a Crisis Response Canine. Ducky recently supported the Baltimore County Fire Department during a funeral for one of their own.

We are proud of Ducky and for every shelter dog! Every shelter dog is a hero as they save us each and every day!!! They teach us love, resilience, and the importance of living in the present moment. They demonstrate forgiveness, patience, and remind us to appreciate the little things. These dogs instill a sense of purpose and gratitude in all of us and encourage us to be more compassionate and empathetic. Shelter dogs are amazing!🤩

The human/animal bond is remarkable and one that should be celebrated and protected! We love our shelter dogs and hope you do, too!

🍋”Lemon-Aid” can ease the hardest of days!

Our friends at Sheebee’s Lemonade stopped by and provided some delicious lemonade to celebrate staff and volunteers! The owners, The Justison Family are loyal volunteers and have fostered kittens each year.

Sheebee’s Lemonade stand is more than just a sweet summer treat—it's a celebration of the Justinson’s beloved cat, Sheebee.

Sheebee was a CCAS alumni who brought endless love and comfort. Though her time with the Justinson’s was tragically cut short, her impact was unforgettable. So, they created this stand in her memory to spread a little joy—just like she always did.

🐱 A portion of all proceeds from this stand is donated to CCAS to help give other animals the second chance that Sheebee got! Please follow their page for up to date information on where they will be next!

We are so grateful for their generousity and delicious lemonade!

There is so much good in the world ❤️

Bobbie Jo is the Director of the David Lokey Center in Elkton, a Day program of Chesapeake Care Resources. Bobbie was accompanied by Aaron to deliver all the donations they have been collecting for the past few weeks thanks to some of the families and staff members. We are so grateful for their kindness and support and all they do for those served through their programs.

King continues to be overlooked…..😢

King is an adorable 4 year old Labrador Retriever mix. King is well mannered and shared his former home with children and other dogs. King has had little interest and few visitors due to no fault of his own. King is a product of what is known as Black Dog syndrome.

When black colored dogs spend more time waiting for their new home than their lighter-colored kennelmates, this is known as Black Dog Syndrome in shelters across the country.

BDS is observed by shelters and rescue groups throughout America and affects black dogs, as well as cats. It is possible that there may simply be more black pets in the shelter and rescue population. However, reports from across the country seem to illustrate the problem, and multiple national organizations have long recognized BDS as an issue that adversely affects the adoption rates of black pets.

Like King, we currently have 20 black dogs and cats awaiting adoption at CCAS!
